Exhausts

I was thinking of getting a sports exhaust fitted to my 2001 Boxster S, but was wondering which one to get, either a genuine one or an after market one.

Any items?

Thanks

Seem to remember an article some time ago about the Janspeed system, they were making some quite bold claims about the power gains which if true could make it well worth a look. As you would expect though it's not cheap.

Unless you change the cats and preferably the manifolds too you are almost guaranteed to get less power from an after market piece of kit and at best status quo.

The 2001 Boxster S with most after market exhausts produces a very annoying boom at around 2700 -3200 rpm which can be very tiresome expecially on motorways when doing a constant speed in those rev bands.

J Z Machtec 07000 100 911 once sold me a very expensive and well made system guaranteed to not give or take one extra bhp from my engine [:D] and it didn't have the dreaded boom band. It was a Rook system expensive but sounded very nice if a tad too quiet still [8D]

Best i have heard is the supersprint system - lovely sound, with a little hint of Ferrari to it

Ebay seller in germany modifies the stock exhaust boxes with a bypass tube - this basicaly takes soem of the gasses from around the entry into the silencer box, and diverts them directly to the tailpipe. I don't think it looks too pretty, but plenty of people have opted for them on price / sound and no issues to date that i've read.

I've got the original PSE and am very happy with it. The level of bark under loaded acceleration is good whilst the 'boom' at motorway cruising isn't too bad.

Some people like the looks, others dont. On a pre-facelift car (which yours is) the bypass pipes that are visible really help the aesthetics of the car lowering the preceived height of the bumper.
