hello

My exhust manifolds are getting very worse for wear. I think it would be sensible now to change them, don't want them to start to blow, can anyone suggest a good make to go for, I can check on genuine parts as well from Porsche but I am sure you guys can come up with some good alternatives.

Looking forward to hearing your thoughts.

Regards Phil

I saved a load by importing a kit from Germany, 2 day delivery, around half price of UK sources. If you look back through my threads (it's called FInally Exhausted) there is a link to the supplier, from recollection it was around £185 (ish)

Good luck.

Hi Phil mine were terrible where the steel is at the end by the block. I changed mine for stainless steel I got of eBay for 160.00 and they fitted exact not like some others I've heard about. I think porsche are mortgage material in price. I also wanted a pair for standard in the future I searched for these in America seeing as the climate is so much better and I found am immaculate pair for 60.00. Just be very careful not to snap any of the bolts as Richard told me as they are prone to this so no bull in a china shop stuff on them. Three of mine were really stubborn but you can hire or buy and sell on a mini conductor it basically heats the bolt to red hot using a electrical field so no flames then they came out with ease. Good luck

Thanks for your responses.

Jules, I found that site www.gm-carsolutions.de and they have these on the site for 169 euro and it works out at less than 20 euro for delivery seems far to good to be true. I presume these Mainfolds were good and you are happy with them if so it seems a no brainer not to order them ?

Thanks Phil

Hello

Had a look on eBay and found a stainless steel set for £129 from a company called Toyosports seems all quiet genuine has anyone had any experience if these ?

Thanks Phil

I can only vouch for gm-carsolutions - the grade of stainless was correct, quality and workmanship excellent, and they came with a gasket kit. I used a specialist
exhaust installer who fabricates sports exhausts from scratch and he told me they were top quality in his view.

Also, had to drill 11 of 12 studs out as they were rusted solid - he had access to a specialist rig fortunately. Not a job for the local KwikFit!

Hope this helps.

J

Thanks Jules

Thats very helpful, my local workshop has confirmed that it could be a real pain to get the studs out and they may have to get a local engineer in to help. He advised that I should leave it for now and as soon as it starts to blow get it done no signs at the moment but not to much meat left so Won't be far off. I will defiantly go for the Mainifolds GM in GermanY so very helpful thank you.

Cheers Phil

The parts that probably look really rusted are the steel plates on top of the manifolds that get bolted through the manifolds are cast and would last longer than you think

That looks loud. I noticed gm-carsolution sell a short shift too - any experience on quality and fitment? Looks to be good price too.

I have to agree with Pieman7 in that I went through a lot of trouble to replace the manifolds on my old carrera 2 about three years ago for stainless items as I was told by a specialist that they were near the end. Once the independent engineer I found drilled all the bolts to remove them he asked why on earth I went through the hassle as the actual manifolds were solid and any visible rust was just superficial.

From memory I sourced mine from an eBay seller called topgear who were an exhaust fabricator. The engineer seemed very impressed by the quality. Word of advice though - I also used the supplied gaskets but they blew immediately. I had them re-fitted with a spare set of genuine gaskets I had and then they worked perfectly. Not sure if it was the first installers torque settings or the gaskets, but I would personally stick to genuine gaskets. My friend still has this car and they are still as new.

I hope this helps.
John.
