Hi all
With the suggestion that PCGB Goodwood and Brands track days may go ahead next week I’ve been looking at applying xpel Trackwrap temporary film to a few areas of my car next weekend .

Any one have any experience of the product or do/don’t recommendation for applying/ removing strips over both areas of existing film and paintwork ?Appears you don’t need to apply slip solution just stick on .

Front end of car and mirrors has Xpel ultimate installed by specialist already but seems a good idea to put on temp film on Cills and rear quarter -3rd Porsche I’ve had PPF Xpel so I know it’s a good product but I’ve no experience of the Tracwrap.

I bought some as a temporary measure, until I have the permanent Ultimate film installed. What I found that it is noticeably thicker then the more permanent PPF so it would withstand bigger stones. However so it will not stretch that much. I believe it sold on various widths/ lengths and quite expensive I recall. As you say you just stick it to your panels, no wetting agent for fine adjustment/alignment. It does the job as a temporary measure it may not look that pretty on the car.

Thanks for the response -I only intend too apply it for the track day and remove same day so visuals not important

Probably too late now, ( so apologies ) but if you already have one of the newer PPF films from Xpel / Suntek you have a great starting point protection wise as these films are pretty thick and very durable.

For a temporary extra measure and for those that have no existing protection, dependent what you are looking to do, ie add further protection or make it easier to clean after a track day ( rubber deposits etc ) the Track Day Xpel is an option but its very expensive for single use.

Other alternatives....

* Pallet Stretch Wrap - Packaging Film - Now don't shoot me down for this...Its very cheap to buy, less than £10 a roll and can be applied to a car , front bumper, bonnet, side sills etc. Easily applied and removed on top of existing PPF films as it has low tac adhesive properties, just peel it off and bin. A little practice applying might be required if you want a decent finish but I know of a very high end marque who uses this stuff before Journalists test drive a car. Much cheaper than PPF ! Its not going to give you a perfect finish but will add a bit more protection and from a distance wont be spotted... unlike option 2 below.

* Detailers masking tape. Its strong and durable yet easily removed from any surface. Not the nicest thing to look at if you cover the front of your car in it, but it will definitely help to protect vulnerable areas and is cheap to buy, easy to apply and quickly removed.

Just a couple of more options for future reference.

Thanks for responses - I have bought a roll of track wrap and the Goodwood track day on Monday has been postponed to 22 June so have a bit more time .
Xpel say you can apply trac wrap over the PPF film but remove same day but I’m a bit unsure about doing this - will try a small area before applying over a few key areas already with PPF like painted splitter and bonnet front lip

Let us know how you get on. Where did you buy the Xpel Track Wrap from? It can be hard to obtain here in the UK.

The guys in the US have some other interesting options, like Road Warrior Liquid Paint, which appears to works great once a few layers have been applied and if its a dry day. Take a look at Obsessed Garage You Tube.
