Export 56 at Newport Pagnell

Dave Wilkinson

New member
Has anyone local to MK had any contact/experience with Export 56 at Woad Corner in Newport Pagnell.

Some months ago I saw some mention of the development of a Porsche-centric facility with on-site maintenance, restoration, retail and refreshment facilities. From the web site (http://www.export56.com/index.jsp) it looks like it has happened and seems quite interesting.

On the face of it it looks like it could be an ideal location for the odd (if not regular) meet for R10 - almost like our own personal Ace Cafe meet!!!

Any thoughts anyone???

Regards

Nice one Dave - this is new to me, and (I suspect) to quite a few people.

I'll do a little bit of digging...

Thanks for the heads up !

I believe it is run by Mick Pacey.

I bought some recaro seats from him a few months ago and he mentioned some interesting projects he had planned. Seems to be very professional.

Export 56 have a colour ad in PP with some very desirable, but expensive, classic Porsches. Mind you the orange 2.7RS looks a bit iffy. At that price it's a shame that it wasn't presented better.

Sounds friendly enough on the phone , in fact very helpful, agree abt the prices ............spread on website of early car prices a little out of date wud nt u say ?

He came along to an R10 monthly meeting (September/October?) and briefed us on his plans. His very nice 356 Speedster was parked in the car park and if it represents the standard of his restoration and cars for sale, then it is very good.

Can't wait for us to move from the Navigation to Woad Corner for our future R10 get togethers.

An Ace Cafe recreation is very much the plan according to the presentation I saw at the Classic Car show at NEC last year -I hope it comes off!!

I e-mailed Mick Pacey the other day when I first saw the reference and I received a reply this morning as follows:

Hi Dave,

Thank you for your email.

Yes, I know Mike Pink well and he is aware of the development at Woad Corner. The current situation is the site will not be ready until the back end of 2005, unfortunately we are dealing with the usual headaches that accompany a development of this nature...I have attached a pdf which gives a brief overview of the site and its various facilities.

It would be a pleasure to accommodate R10 when the site opens, I will keep you informed as to the progress.

Your support is appreciated.

Kind Regards
Mick Pacey

I've put the pdf Mick refrrred to on my web site with a link

It's a shame it's not ready yet - but something to look forward to.

Are you having your mail redirected to the rock you have been living under for the last 6 months Mr. D

One of your fellow Porschistas has been an Export 56 evangelist for quite a while now [:)] the flat sixes have to go there pretty soon, R10 meet or not

Brian is spot on; I had been tracking down this story for almost six months before I finally met Mick Pacey and got him to come to our R10 meeting last October. (Shame so many members missed it.[:(] )
Brian did post a thread on this forum in October about Mick's presentation and I wrote it up in PPost in December's edition. I will update members on this forum when there is some real news on the development.

Let's hope he gets the roadblocks removed and the construction underway soonest. Then we can discuss whether it is a suitable venue for our Monthly Meetings or whatever........[:)]

Happy New Year.....

I,ve been following this since the article in Classiccars mag . We could do with an 'ACE CAFE' type venue in Northants.

Went to the usual mini meet at the ACE last night , very cold .

Being a Shell fan as well the classic Shell garage is a nice touch .

I would love a late 50s early 60s Shell fuel pump for my Garage .

I know the garage well. Remember the fuel crisis a few yrs back ? Well at that time, I was desperate for the stuff like most people and being in the Accord R, needed "hyper-juice".

That particular garage was reckoned on having petrol, but only 4 star LRP..most drivers wouldn't try it because it wasn't "unleaded". In fact it was unleaded, but it did have another chemical to act as UCL. I recall the (internal) conversation well:-

"If I put LRP into it, won't it screw the cat converter up ?.."

Well, given the choice of trying to commute to airports on public transport or the fact that my Co. car might from that point have a non compliant catalytic converter I thought:-

"Sorry, cat - you lost this particular round - I won't own you when you fail the MOT anyhow " [:-]

Incidentally, the car ran superb on LRP, and it was from this garage that I escaped the fuel crisis.

Don't stories like that just warm the cockles...

Trash the company car, who cares...

Absolutely!!

I wouldn't have driven my own car off the forecourt had I just stuck £30 worth of petrol into the diesel tank, but the works A3? Fill it to the brim with diesel and hit the M40, top it off at every filling station between Wycombe and my house. No problem, went even faster the next day lol.

All such experiments work so much better on other peoples' cars. Try that kind of thing in your own; instant £500 bill for something or other that didn't appreciate your pioneering spirit.
