Export UK model to Canada?

Guest

I am moving to Canada this summer for 2-4 years. Before I discount the option, does anyone know if you can export a UK model 3.2 to Canada?

I have got a shipping price but I am assuming that the emissions laws are a problem (because Porsche gave Canada and the US their own model.)

Thanks for any help,
Simon

Thanks Dave, from what I've can gather, if the car is over 15 years old then the law applies differently to importing cars to Canada. The safety standards for the year of vehicle manufacture have to apply.

Any other ideas, anyone?

Just been speaking to one of our UK customers who is living in Canada on a 2 year period,he took his Fiat Coupe out there on a temporary basis. He not aloud to sell it ,scrap it etc out there but must bring it back to do either. He had to get Canadian plates straight away through a " one off MOT / SVA test " which the car had to be manufacter standard which it wasn't .The guy still passed the test for a drink and told him if anyone stopped him then he had done the work after the test just like our old MOT's.Once this test is done you are issued with the correct plates and have to go through it all again when you come back to the UK.After this there aren't any yearly test to take .....hence a load of wrecks on the road.
He will e-mail me all the agencys you have to contact to if you are interested.

John, I've used google to start my information search but I was hoping someone may have personal experience of the issue. The article you found certainly gave me more detail - thanks.

Ian, thanks for the offer, that would be very helpful if you could ask your client for more info.

Cheers!
