Exporting 993 to Australia

Don't suppose anyone has any experience in this area. I am in the process of emigrating to Oz, plan was to take my pride and joy with me. However after some digging around I will have to pay circa £4-5,000 Shipping, about £11,000 in luxury car tax and General Sales Tax plus have an inspection at the other end with possible modifications to Australian standards!!

So at the moment the Car is up for sale - Totally Gutted and distraught!!

So I either bite the bullet or try and source another one out there!

Don't sell it til you have spoken to Simon Extreme (964RS forum). He's emigrated to Oz with his beast.
nb some of your costings seem OTT to me.

I've done it before with an MG Nigel as I am an Aussie living in the UK having just moved back to the UK. Happy to offer advice. Don't rush into anything. You need to do your homework.

Having just looked at your beautiful car and the possible purchase price of a car like that in Oz, I would honestly work out all the costs before rushing out to sell it. Porsches are expensive back home. The company I dealt with was www.karmanshipping.com lots of good advice on their website. You need to use an agent to enable the lowest possible Oz valuation of your car for customs purposes. The website has a spreadsheet to assist as well

Jason.

Bring it with you its a very rare model here in Australia. I have been looking for a 4S for 18 months, there are only 53 Ss in Australia and even less 4Ss in fact i have not even found a 4S. I did find an S in Melboune very nice car with low ks 1800 silver black $170000 (74000 stirling) sold in 2 days and i missed it. So bring it with you and i will give you a small profit over UK pricing ? get the air con well sorted before you get here, black will get very hot in the summer. I sold my 911 Turbo when we left the UK and even now after been here for 18 months i still miss it. I think you have to keep it for 2 years before you can sell it, gives me time to save up

Cayman S
Boxster S sold
911 Turbo sold (but still missed)

Thanks for all the good advice, think I will have a better look into it before I commit to selling. Cheers Jason, had a look at the web site, think I need to try and work the figures out again.

Thanks also Bob, is there any reason why you have not tried importing a 911 S or 4S into Oz from the UK yourself?

Cheers Nigel

Great thread as I am moving to Perth in a few years and taking my 69 912 and the 54 356 with me.

I have been to a shipper in Freemantle to ask questions and he was ok but knew his stuff and didn't like the fact I knew my stuff ( USA to UK , Euro land to UK ) so I asked questions he didn't like..

So I came to the conculsion that the 69 912 would shipped at a complete car and I would just get stuck on the tax's etc but the 54 as it is a project and still in bits would be shipped as a parts car and the value is less, I had a shipper value the car as is for $15,000. which I am happy about as I am only a working man and to finish the car here and then they value the car as much as 80,000-100,000 will leave me in debt!! so I am leaving the car in bits [:(]

do update us more on this I am watching with keeness..

Oh and I was quoted £1000 for shipping not £4000!!! boy oh boy..

I have over the years learnt alot about shipping and there is some very wild costs out there so do more homework..

It seems everyone wants to leave the UK. We are looking at either Tenerief or New zealand at the mo and hopefully my car wiill come with me. Not sure on New Zealand tho as cut off age is 55 so my partners parents wouldnt get in.

I agree with New Zeland as it is much like the UK used to be..

before hmmm hmm hmmmmm and the euro lot and lots of other stuff that don't seam to get any better

don't forget where you go is not perfect but a hell of alot better than here.

Some where like NZ your pound will alow you a life you never could dream of having.. I'm off to Perth for better weather, life style, education for my son, being more active and eating better food, cheaper living costs and a chance to make enough money to actualy have a pension!!!! for when I need to draw on it..until here. Pension robbed by the company who told you it was safe as houses, weather bad, expensive to live here, terrible traffic, speed camera's at every possible money making corner.. sorry safety corner. Growing old in the cold, damp and terrible nursing homes.. NO thanks..

Thanks JCB ... needed a dose of pommie baiting .. !

cheers, Maurice

FYI expat Oz .. [;)]

In that case Maurice I won't mention the rugby. [8|]

Rugby [:D][:D][:D] good job I'm not a sports fan.. No you miss read my comments about the forum.. i was meaning the 356 side where er... not alot is happening..as usual..and dispite my efforts to offer help there seams to be a brick wall from the old guard, sorry I didn't make that clear.

So Maurice [;)] you can hold your F*** off then for a while. I met up with a few of the Porsche Club in Perth and they were very keen to have some one offer to help on the olderside of the club.. unlike here.

I am going to move there, and mainly for Family ( my new son ) and a better long term life for pensions and cost of living etc. I will missing Europe for sure. I am sure I will miss the large club events as Perth is mainly moderns but who says I have to still own a Porsche.

Anyway it's funny the number of Pomps V Oz's that do the swap each year.. my wife is from Perth so she's coming home..

and JCB no it's £3.20 ( shocking isn't it. )
