Extended warranty question

I have just had 2 year service on my car which is 23 months old and have opted for the 2 year wrranty extension. As I had the car collected and delivered did not have the chance to question the service guy but on looking at the invoice I see that I have been charged £180 + VAT for the 111 point check even though the car is still within the original manufacturer's warranty period.

Is this correct or should I question this with the OPC. I had been under the impression that the 111 check was for car without current warranties.

I also see that they have not stamped the maintenance book!

It is another way of pumping up the extended Warranty cost. To have the extended Warranty you must have the 111 point check.

Be aware, the extended warranty excludes quite a few items that are covered by the first two years warranty.

If you have anything marginally non standard such as a hard wired Speed Camera locator, the OPC will decline the extended Warranty but still charge for the 111 point check.

I have decided to not take up the 3rd year Warranty on the Cayenne, but I did on the 911 and it proved to be a waste of money.
On my sons 911 we are taking our chances again !

I have the extended warranty in spite of paint protection film on front of car from A pillar and a hard wired laser jammer ( i mean front parking sensor) !!

I still think the 111 check is a bit of a con.

The inspection for the extended warranty is chargeable.
It's the only part that makes the 2 year plan cheaper than the two times the 1 year plan.

It used to be one figure but now they do split it into the different sections, examination, insurance and breakdown.

As they say, time flies when you're having fun [;)]

However they should have stamped the book..
Good timing to get it in prior to the 24months as you can get things fixed beforehand...

Mines due next month and I am also being charged for the 111 point check, which I believe is the norm. As a matter of interest what are you guys being charged for the warranty?

The reason I ask, is that my OPC assure me that Porsche set the rate for said warranty and they have no way of discounting it. Mmmmmmmm........

I'm pretty sure that the warranty fee paid goes direct to Porsche cars(Germany), so the OPC are unable to do anything on the price of the warranty itself.
However do talk to your service department as sometimes if the car is in for service they may do the 111 inspection at the same time for no or very little cost...- its pretty much covering the same ground, I know of one dealer near Exeter (who I won't name) that will indeed do both at the same time. [;)]

If you're due for service and warranty renewal at the same time, then there's no harm in asking.

Thanks for that Gary, but ive already got a very healthy discount for the service (+ free mot and other bits and bobs) plus an assurance of a 2010 pdk 997 for 2 days, while my car is in for the work doing. So im sure they wont knock anything else off for the inspection, but you have confirmed what I suspected regarding the warranty price.....their hands are tied!!!!

I have spken to my service contact and the 111 is not negotiable. I still think that it is a con in that my car is still within the manufacturers warranty and should not require a check. If there is anything wrong then it should be covered by the original warranty and I feel should be done as a matter of course and without charge but thats Porsche for you!! They couldn't even stamp my maintenance book!!

If you read the bumf if you renew the warranty more that 12 months before it is due then you dont need to pay the 111 point checkup! Who in their right mind would pay for a warranty extension of a 11 month old car with 13 months to run on the warranty for a further 2 years ! This is clever "speak" for designing something that will always fail!!

Still I love the car and realise that Porsche need to make a profit but I think this is milking us punters.

Exactly ! That's what I said earlier, that it is just a way of pumping up the price of extended warranty.

If you decline the extended warranty and do have a problem, you can approach the Dealer Principle and he can decide if he wishes to accept or reject the costs.
If he accepts the costs, then he retains you as a customer. If he rejects the cost, he looses you as a future customer.

I believe that if you lock horns with a Dealer principal over a Warranty issue, the Dealer will contact Porsche and ask for their financial support to retain a customer.

With the Warranty cost being around the £1,000 mark for the third year, you do have a theoretical reserve for repairs if you don't
pay up front for the Warranty. As someone that has paid, only to find out that Battery's are excuded from the Warranty it is a bit of a Sting. Corroded wheel centres are also excluded from Warranty claims but the Dealer Principal caved in to pressure and replaced them !

Jonathan

I hadnt realised that about extending with more than a year to go. My car currently has approx 13 months of warranty left so if I renew now I save the inspection cost and, presumably, another 2.5% with VAT going up next year too. That's approx a 20% discount which seems like a pretty good deal to me. When you say "read the bumf", is there a booklet or something I can point the OPC to when they try and deny this....?! All the best, Andrew

It is..........

Porsche Reading are discounting my extended 1 yr warranty (taking the 111 point check off) so it's a grand. I will still be within my original warranty period when I get it.
