Exterior temperature sensor

The exterior temperature sensor on my 1990 964 permanently shows 60c. I'm guessing the problem is with the sensor - has anyone got any idea where it is located? I know this was a common problem on Vauxhalls (I used to sell them) and removing the sensor and leaving it somewhere warm to dry out used to do the trick - I'm hoping there's a similarly easy fix for my Porsche.

The sensor is in the left hand door mirror. I've seen mention of this problem before and I'm fairly sure there was a comment about the temperature always displaying wrongly when, I think, the heated rear window was switched on. It could be that it's the default display when no data is received from the sensor - maybe disconnected/worn wire???

My best guess I'm afraid.

Thanks Dave. I'll investigate at the weekend and post back. MOT this week though and the outcome of that will determine how my weekend is spent...
