External Door Handle Broken

Hi all

I drove my baby to WrighTune this morning to have the Wavetrac LSD installed. When Tony went to get in the car to drive it into the shop, the driver's door handle pull-thing went all 'heavy' and it stopped working. I had to climb-in via the passenger door and open the driver's door from the inside.

I suppose if something's going to go wrong, it's good if it goes wrong at the garage!

Any thoughts on what it might be? A spring? And how much work is involved?

Sounds like the lock mechanism is a bit siezed Mathew. I had this a while back and its just a case of lubricating the catches that you can see in the end of the door and working them back and forth until it frees off. The trigger itself also likes a wee bit of oil from time to time as well but I doubt its this seizing that's your problem.

Thanks Clyde. The next day the temp had warmed up a bit and the lock worked. Who knows? Possibly what you said - or the piston. I'll let you know next time :) M

Could also be the trigger itself being a bit seized Matthew, does it seem a bit stiff if you operate it when the car is locked? It should be fairly free moving as it's effectively detatched from the latch mecahanism. A squirt of lithium grease or similar into it and the lever worked back and forth should free it off. A good precautionary measure even if it's working fine [8|]

Hi Clyde When locked, it does seem to have a bit of a 'notch'. I've only got di-lithium crystals - no lithium grease. I'll have a chat with Scotty and see if I can get hold of some. M
