It isn't black paint - they are anodised black. You have to take the rear windows out to get at the self-tapping screws that hold them to the bodywork. They are bl**dy expensive to replace too!

Presumably the ones on the doors are the same as on a 964--held dow with bayonet clips that are insetered into holes at the top of the door----just checked my 993 and they look the same as the 964---if this is the case--put a thin bladed screw driver under the back of the strip and prise up slowly. Someone else may be able to confirm this. Yes they are annodised and not painted--may be able to buy a set second hand from porsapart or other specialist second hand parts dealers.

Mask up the surrounding area carefully and spray with Black paint (Satin finish).
You may have to do this every two years (I do on my 964).
Cheers,

For the avoidance of a two-tone Targa, how much of the surrounding area should I mask?

Any particular recommendations of paint to use?

Hello Robert.
If you are using an aerosol to spray the area then approx 12" should be adequate.
Work using a sheet on newspaper (double thickness, use the fold that is already there). A tip here is to place the sheet of newpaper (already folded) on the rear screen. Place your masking tape so that it is 50% on the paper and 50% on the glass, press the tape down onto the paper firmly, lift the paper and tape up and then place in position for masking. Before using tape and paper mask the area off just using masking tape, then when you are happy with that masking then apply tape with paper attached, sticking it to the tape and don't forget to stick the other end of the paper against the car to avoid it falling over your fresh paint etc.
Sorry if I haven't explained this very well, it is easier to do than to explain. Need any other info email me off forum.
Cheers,
