Extra Horses?

Strictly

Im not complaining! Driving has me grinning on a daily basis![:D]

I was just reading the other day that the early sc's were about 180 HP and the later ones were about 210. Mines a 1979 (so early one).

What is the difference, it is something i could retrofit easily or is it related to a change to different valve profiles/valve timing, injection control, etc? In which case better to just leave it.

I can see that to boost horses the best starting point is always to improve the engine breathing, I need to change my heat exchangers and my exhaust is also shot (i keep finding more jobs!), so going to start there, but was just wondering what the difference was from the factory of the early and late 3.0.

Do they make an KN air filter for this engine? Any Good?

Sometime in the next few weeks, i'm going to fully service (valve adjustment) and tune the engine, which is going to help, i was just wondering what the factory did...

The factory quoted figure for post 81SCs is 204bhp. They had higher compression, so uprating to this spec is expensive and not worth it, there are better ways to get real BHP. If you want to make your SC fly - retime the cams to Carera 3.0 spec, fit SSI HEs (or early HEs) (10-15bhp) a bitz racing EFI kit (instant 20+bhp) and a triad twin out exhaust, all that should provide a huge grin factor especially if you lose some weight (not you personally [:D]), fit new shocks and corner balance and align the car.

Hi bones

You are a wealth of knowledge!

I'm going to switch to the early exhaust so thats sorted that bit, By EFI, do you mean electronic fuel injection? Is that a major job/kit? It sounds like it should be.

Retiming the cams, shouldnt be too hard, I'll read up on that in the meantime

Thanks Bud,

Luke.

Yes Electronic Fuel injection, there are several but the most cost effective for our cars is the Bitz racing device, you fit it yourself and hook it up to your lap top, there is a stack of knowledge ove on Pelican Parts forum.

If you want more info on cam timing you could talk to John Glynn on the impact bumper forum, he runs a lovely lightweight Carrera 3.0 the cam timing is what should be on the SC. The early SCs are basically a detuned Carrera 3.0! []
