That's John Sims' "Beaky". It's an Essential Styling splitter. Same as mine/Rick's/others:

It's made of fiber glass I suppose ?

There is a 968 TS front splitter on my 951 ; it doesn't fit perfectly (the bottom curve of the 968 bumper is differently shaped) but I'm sure glad it's made of polyurethane otherwise I'd have left it somewhere on a bump stop ...
 
The ESS one is fibreglass with an optional (which we all have I think) carbon fibre layer. Although I know of 5 people or more including myself with the splitter nobody has broken one yet, and most of the cars are lowered.

The splitter is excellent quality and because it's a full undertray it actually works rather than a lip that just deforms the PU at speed. Also it's flat (hence the depression for the 951 oil cooler you can see) whereas the standard one has depth to it, so you actually gain ground clearance with this splitter.

Don't be put off; go for it.

I've already got a "home-made" front splitter on order from Germany that is said to be very robust even though it's also in fiberglass.
If the ESS one is as good as you say I may try to find a huge bump stop to break the other one quickly [:D]

Sorry Ian, I've got another front splitter on order and a local 968 owner has already expressed interests in having it if I sold it.

Robust isn't necessarily very good. My previous splitter was double skinned GRP, from Germany. It looked awesome but when it got caught not only did the splitter smash but it wrecked all the fixing points on the PU and broke all the vertical webs that hold the lower "mouth" together. [:mad:]

I did kerb the ESS splitter, prior to that photo being taken, and although it chipped the edge it rode up over the kerb without further grief.

Surprisingly the underside of the splitter tray is grazed in a good number of places in addition to the bottom edge of the lip, so the car does bottom out lower than the dropped front edge on some road surfaces.

So my conclusions:-

The splitter should be robust enough not to fall off but not so stiff that it wrecks the car WHEN you catch it .

 
Well, if it breaks I'll make do with the 968 splitter even it doesn't look quite right.
As in the old saying, "you won't make an omelette if you won't break eggs".
