Eynsham Register Challenge

Due to the wimping out of one member of the team for the Register Challenge at Eynsham Hall, I'm looking for one person who wants to join us.

Consists of a choice of two events from pedal karts, Scalextric race and clay pidgeon shooting, so should be a bit of light entertainment.

Paul Smith, John Sims and myself are undergoing a vigorous training regime, in order to ensure the 944 Register continues to have the respect it deserves amongst the Club membership [&:]

First to volunteer is in, probably quickest to text me on 07971 832780.

I don't mind not doing it if you get two well fit volunteers who are insisting they must take part.

Some may recall my sitting under a towel, the morning after the night before, at Eynesham the year before last.

There again perhaps few will..... there aren't many of us left from that fatefull gathering. [8|][:(]

Hi all,

Second request for a fourth member for the Register Challenge....

Yesterday's request brought so few replies that I could count them on the fingers of one hand and still have four fingers left. And a thumb [&:]

Seriously, as the second biggest Register can we not get a team of four together for a bit of fun at the National event??? I reckon there are about 1397 of you guys not volunteered so far!

If I don't get anyone by the end of the week I'll have to withdraw us from the challenge, handing certain victory to the Boxster Register [;)], so please step forward and support us.

I may be able to step up to defend the register honour - I was trying to create another team but we only have 3 members so if the other 2 dont mind me abandoning them (too much) I will volunteer - also assuming I can find my tickets which I have currently misplaced but do remember receiving.

Cheers, Tony

You've restored my faith in the membership, don't know why I didn't think of you in the first place as you're young and fit [:)]

......but Rick was our gunner and marksman for the clay pigeon shoot. I don't fancy being in the same county as any of you three if you're picking up a loaded weapon []

Was young and fit once!

I will be shooting - pictures and not an imaginary 12-bore ! Unfortunately it'll be a busy weekend covering the event (and drinking) so I tactically withdrew [;)]

I've got a chipped scalextric GT3, do you think they will notice if I substitute it for the official car when I race [:D]

Well congratulations and thanks to all my team mates (and thanks to Paul for organising it), we won!
We picked up the best register prize - not hard as apparently we were the only register team that entered and the overall prize (iirc 25 teams entered all together).
Silverware / champers / hampers - and the one most of us wanted a trackday at Donnington with piloted laps in PS new/old 911's (when is it?)
The scalextric was really tense and the pedal Karts damn hard work, the hill was a killer! (John and Paul M will have to report back on the stresses of shooting [;)])
Excellent!

Tony and I misunderstood the slipstreaming concept:

What superb fun. And to think, with all the preceding agro, I was on the brink of saying "Sod it!" and not going at all.

The Scalextric was indeed tense on a track which, while looking easy, was fiendishly well designed. Nasty off camber exits to corners and humps and bumps which would spit you out with no provocation. The "Crash and Burn" rules made it very sweaty with the main tactic being to at least finish - not easy when your team mate takes both of you out. 8 races of 5 laps with one race in each lane made things very tricky but the only fair way to do the tournament.

We had a good start with some high scores in the first few races from the best track positions which helped to dispirit our opposition. The middle few races weren't so promising with a number of crashes spoiling our points tally. In the final race we were running 1st, 2nd and 3rd, and trying to pull off the full staged finish, when (due to changing cars all the time) I was watching the wrong car and crashed mine - sorry guys. None the less, 1st 2nd, 3rd and 5th in our heat was deemed acceptable so we didn't put ourselves through the stress of a potential two additional heats to try to achieve the full 1st, 2nd, 3rd & 4th.

The Lazer Clays were equally fiendish and only produced 30/30 & 15/30 in our first shoot. After some mental coaching we stepped up to the line again just in time to turn the 15/30 into a 27/30.

Paul S and Tony were undoubtedly the heroes of the event putting in the most physical effort in the pedal carts. One team did put in better times but may have included Boardman and Armstrong.

We are obviously thrilled to have won, particularly as none of us have managed to do a track day this year despite being very keen. And I love Donnington.
