ok so im comming to the end of recomissioning my 924 after the previous owner stripped the complete fuel system when it failed to start.
ok i got it cheap with a few bits missing but when i never stripped it im finding it difficult to piece it back together.
finally got it all reinstalled then went round the back to fit the fuel pump and there staring me in the face is a hole in the fuel tank!!!
now this is no ordinary hole, this one is meant to be there, its at the bottom of the swirl chamber (box at bottom of fuel tank) and its about 1 1/2" accross and ive nothing left to fit.....

so......... what is it for, what fits there and where do i get one????

please put me out my misery

These pumps were about the same price as the external pump. I bough one in my early days but it didn't solve my problem. The old one is in my shed and I will fill it with petrol and put 12v on it to see if it spins up. If it does then it is yours for £30

ahhhh turns out most never had one fitted so it would be easyier fitting a new tank that doesnt have one............... less to go wrong!!!

so im now looking for a non pumped fuel tank [:)]

or just fit your pump........ i prefer the KISS solution "keep it simple stupid" (im ex armed forces and found this always works [:D])

The alternative is to fit the filter that was used on the 944 in place of the internal pump.. About £40 from Porscheshop.. go to www.porscheshop.co.uk

Mine started to leak a couple of years ago around the connector terminals.

My local service removed it. I was told it's not necessary and it wasn't fitted on later models - I don't know how true this is but the car seems to run fine without it.

If you want to know what he replaced it with - send me an email: okeefem69@hotmail.com and I'll ask him.

The second punp was an attempt to cure the hot start problems on early cars.
(It wasnt used on the 944) and as I said in a previous post the trick is to fit the filter used on the 944 that replaced the said pump.
The other trick is to strip the guts out of the pump and use the body only to take up the space.

thats exactly what im going to do, ive got hold of a pump uber cheapness and if it doesnt work strip it to fill the hole

Do not do that, it is likely to ignite the fuel.

The only reason it doesn't happen on the car is because there is no air to allow it to ignite!

Actually you are quite corrcet I have failed to consider the sparks from the brushes in the motor, what a twat. Ooh could have been nasty for a few second, or cured my constipation at least.

I can't believe I even thought of it. Must bee getting old.

Actually when you have lain under an LT 28 van holding back a tankfull of fuel because your workshop buddy has unscrewed the pump body from the tank, the first time you see one you realise they run totally submerged and how clever a concept that is. What happens when you run out of fuel then?
