F***ing AUTOGLASS!!!!!!!!!!!!

Picked up the car after a windscreen replacement on Tuesday. Massive rock cracked
the screen last year, so it spread over the winter frost period.

Claimed through the insurance broker Carole Nash, had to be done at the local
Autoglass centre. I expressed my reservations, but was told thats where it had to go.

So, I removed the old screen the night before, cleaned off all the gunk, bought a new seal, disconnected the radio and generally made it very easy for them.

Dropped the car off, very poor service at the desk (I am sure she was sucking on a lemon) however, the fitter seemed to know his stuff and it was a genuine screen, with radio connector and sun strip.........

So, collected at 4pm, after dealing with Elvira on the desk, had a quick chat with the fitter and although it was not him that fitted it, said it was an easy job due to the prep work I had done.

Happy, off home I went, visually it was a great job to my surprise..........

This 'effin morning I wash the car my usual way. Jumped in, started up and switched the lights on, then I put the wipers on and the interior lights are going nutts, just as the wet sensation on both my shins is starting to take effect!!!!!!!!!!!! Also, the radio isnt working!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

The car is soaking inside and water is p*ssin' all over the electrics and onto the floor.........

GRGRGRGRGRGRGRG, I cant wait till 8am when Carole Nash and Autoglass open.

Thanks for allowing me the ability to share my rage at such an early hour............

P.S. Dont phone Carole Nash for an insurance quote today............

Sorry to hear this -not the first tale regarding Autoglass.

The list on my Audi was as follows:

Glass and rubber debris left on drive (I had two toddlers at the time.....);
Glass and rubber debris left in footwell;
Trim loose;
Glass dirty, could still see suction tool marks;
Glue on A-pillars and above screen.

Give then their due, they did sort all this out ASAP.

last time we needed a windscreen (wife's Golf) we just REFUSED to use Autoglas - the Ins co was insistent but we persevered and, guess what, they fianlly agreed and we had a pukka VW screen fitted. It pays to complain...

I had loads of problems with them which were finally sorted - they fitted a 'pattern' screen which had the mirror boss directly in the line of sight. After fitting 2 different screens they eventually ordered a Porsche one - I also insisted that they replaced the trim strips (they'd been out about 3 times now). By talking to the fitters I got them to take great care when fitting and I'm happy now!

I don't think they made much profit on this job though!

Perhaps it's worth mentioning the forums and the bad publicity being generated for them, my only dealings with them ended in a complaint and a satisfactory end to the saga, my general impression was the people doing the job didn't give a damn.

I had a windscreen changed by them some years ago, at my place of work, and they did it quickly and neatly. Top tint, no fuss, no mess, no leaks, aerial reconnected, and it is still there !

Just thought that I would give the other side, to stop this becoming too downbeat !

Well, give them their due's.

Car was back in at 9.30 today and I am told it will be ready at 11am.

They were apologetic of sorts. I feel Elvira has moved onto Lime's........

However, they were unable to confirm it was a genuine Porsche supplied screen
when requested, as per agreed with Carole Nash and the Autoglass 0800 booking service. I got the story about 'from the same factory etc'.

I was told, I would have the answer when I pick the car up.............

Carole Nash has agreed that if there is any damage to the electrics, then it will be covered under the insurance policy, then they will claim off Autoglass.

An update later today or Monday............

Just collected car.............

Useless people. The fitter who worked on it wasnt there, it was 'Lunch' mate!

Radio doesnt work, cant help you there mate.

Its a Pilkington's screen mate, its the same manufacturer mate.

No Sekurit makes all the glass from that period.

So, I asked my bestest new mate, did they water test the screen. Low and behold, he had no idea mate.

Time will tell.

Letter to be sent to Carole Nash technical. Start of a long saga I feel. A screen can be bought for as little as £120, the cheapest I found a genuine OEM screen was £385 from Specialist Cars.......

Cannot check all the internal electricals at the moment, too light outside........

I got my local porsche garage to do it, they were happy to get Autoglass to come on site and fit it, but I specifically asked for them to do it themselves. Too many variables when getting Autoglass or the like, maybe some are good, and some are bad. I know that my local garage is pretty good consistently. Cost about 300notes extra! but insurance paid, I just said nobody else is going to touch my car!

Sorry to hear of your trouble it is painfull I am sure.
