Bit of advice please anyone got the Fabspeed stainless steel supercup performance exhaust as got this used one on the left and I see this type on the right on the design 911 site , just wondered why the difference in some of the design , ???
and any experiences with them ? at the moment I have a standard factory exhaust on my 2009 gen 2 pdk S

Before you commit to an exhaust upgrade, ask what the decibel reading is at 5000 rpm.

Your photo of the exhaust in question looks as if it could be VERY loud. If you intend doing track days, bear in mind there are noise checks at many circuits. If your car is too loud, say over 100db, you'll be excluded.

I was considering a performance exhaust earlier this year for my 781 CS from FVD Brombacher which promised 17bhp and 13 Nm torque gains. When I asked the question about noise, I was told the exhaust was over 100db at 5000 rpm.

So be aware before you spend.

thank you for your prompt reply , and advice it is much appreciated ,however I'm not intending to track my cayman but I have been considering a S/S exhaust for some time and something that would improve her sound , and this came up at the right price considering a new one is over £1500.00, I was more concerned with the fitment and the difference in the design thanks again regards Bryan

ok update on the above , so finally got around to fitting it , I had the exhaust bolt problem . rusted so I had to get the toys out to remove them and fit new bolts , anyways , the original system is in excellent condition so no prob there , fitting the fabspeed system was straight forward and Fabspeed themselves were most helpful with some advice enve if i was not buying a new one , apparently they switched from the flexible sections a year or so back to a straight through section , however the rest is exactly the same , it's a lot lighter than the standard S system and looks fantastic , the quality of construction / welding is outstanding , so on too the sound / noise , well my wife ( Petrol head with two older petrol head brothers ) who has heard it from the outside thinks it sounds far better much more "Porsche " than standard , yes louder as well but not so much the neighbours will start throwing eggs. From the inside the cabin is noisier but not too intrusive , A much deeper growl when accelerating . Very pleased myself , but my wife is yet to give her approval as to the inside sound. in the end the price I paid was well worth it considering the new cost of £1500.00 and the fact that the local Porsche OPC wanted £511.36 to remove / replace the 6 rusted studs on the Cat / main exhaust flange ( a common problem I have since discovered ) which I did myself . regards Bryan

Bryan,

Well done you! I must say I admire your resolve for going ahead with this exhaust mod. The photo you posted of the Fabspeed S/S system certainly looked to me as if it was going to be so loud it would awaken the dead. Not so apparently from your description of the sound, and an excellent result for you. Also, must have been especially rewarding to get full approval of the end result from your wife..........

Hi Brian , fine name that , even if spelt the wrong way LOL Ahh I am actually not quite out of the woods yet so to speak , we have yet to do a long trip so I may have spoken too soon , still I have the original to go back on if she who must be obeyed (otherwise the brothers come round ) decides her delicate ears cant cope , does sound good though . regards Bryan [:)]

Hi I got a hand made Stainless Steel exhaust upgrade life time warranty from Tony Banks in Leeds mine is 98db at 5000 he will do it as loud as you want all for £360 fitted

good for you , however I consider it very rude to "hijack " someone else's post to advertise another company , perhaps you should start your own thread thank you out of interest just googled him , according to one forum , he uses "generic" parts which are then connected together , so not a Porsche specifically made system , anyway , you pays your money , you takes your choice

Nice to hear you're happy Welsh Pilot.

The standard exhausts are lovely and smooth, and quiet, but you just want the car to SOUND like it should.

Hope it all works out on a long run fella
