'Facelifting' an older 996

I'm beginning to look into buying a 996 and prefer the look of the face lifted models but wondered if it is viable to convert an old style car to the new look? Obviously it would require different headlights and bumper but does it also mean changing the bonnet and wings too, and therefore becomes a ridiculous task?

Thanks for your replies.

Yes, you need to change the wings and headlight mounts too. Bonnet is the same. In the end, I am sure it would cost you as much as buying a facelift car in the first place. IMO you also end up with a bit of a mongrel. I guess it is a bit like putting a 964 front end on a 3.2 Carrera. Potential buyers will always question why.

Thanks for the replies, they confirm what I expected and the point about the 964 front made me smile as I saw one of those advertised a little while ago and thought to myself "why did he do that?"

So a face lifted model it is. Cheers.

thought to myself "why did he do that?"

My initial thought would be because someone stuffed it, so had to replace the parts and thought, why not do that with "better" bits.

.... and I'm speaking from experience, here, which is why I ended up with a Celica GT4 with a "Carlos Sainz" front end after an off-road excursion on June 1st, 1998! (funny how those dates stick in your mind). ;-)
