Can anyone help. My factory fitted alarm has started to intermittently sound at the most inappropriate times for no apparent reason. It seems to know when I have just been asleep for a couple of hours before waking me and probably most of the neighbours! I could not find anything regarding alarms by searching so does anyone know if there is anyway to fix it or at least disable it? Does it use the standard horn as I tried removing the horn fuse which stopped the horn working but not the alarm? Any advice greatly received!

I had the same prob when we got our S2.
You can pop the fuse to stop it going off.
You need to locate the control unit. Mine was full of consensation and needed to be removed and opened up for a day to dry out ~ after this it worked without a hiccup.
I was grumped at last time I mentioned where this is located ~ this is an open forum after all ... []

Thanks for the replies guys! Yes the alarm should go off. I did this the other day to try and locate the siren, but it takes about 30 seconds from locking the car for the sensors to pickup the movement it seems. I have spoken to James down at Jon Mitchells garage and he explained that the horn/sounder is on the bulkhead and can be disconnected if it is causing too many false alarms. I have located the horn (I believe) just behing the fusebox but it sounds very different to the alarm going off but both seem to come from around the same location. I tried removing the horn fuse which stopped the horn working but the alarm still works so not sure if there is a bypass or if there is another horn hidden down underneath somewhere. Is the control unit down under the passenger footwell?

Not in our old S2.
You have mail.
I had similar problems with the factory fitted alarm on my 944. Underneath the bonnet, driver's side close to the windscreen, you should be able to disconnect the alarm.
Eventualy the whole system failed and I have replaced it with a Thatcham 1 category system.
Hope this helps.

Okay thanks for that - what does it look like then as it wasn't obvious (at least not to me anyway)! Out of interest what did you fit in it's place and rough cost. I have been quoted about £450 for a Cat1 system plus £75 for removal of the factory sytem and maybe extra for removal of my separate immobiliser!
