Factory Collection

Guest

New member
I take delivery on my 997s in April and am thinking of collecting it from the factory.
What are other peoples experiences of the factory collection? My Dealer tells me that most people think that it is worthwhile and I fancy a change rather than picking it up from the showroom.

Thanks
Geoff[;)]

It's fantastic!

Can't recommend it highly enough. How many days cover do you get now? It was 10 when we did it.

I believe it's still 10 days.
As I'm paralysed from the waist down, I need hand controls fitted at the factory so I'm hoping that this can be sorted out for me. At present from talks with the dealer and factory it seems that it can be done.

Make doubly sure! We do know someone that turned up at the Factory (as arranged) and they were not expecting him until the next day...

I found some links to info on the factory collection here ofn the forum (some wander off topic a tad though, but th estart is good info):

I couldn't find the one where I nearly convinced everyone it was a must have though! Must have been so good it was deleted[;)]

Let us know haow it goes?

Geoff,

Like Mark, I would personally recommend the Factory Collection! It's definitely the experience of a lifetime! If I choose to order another new Porsche, I'll certainly be opting to collect it from Zuffenhausen again, rather than my local OPC. I'm a little surprised that more buyers don't opt for this amazing experience.

I ordered my MY2002 2.7 Boxster on the Tourist Delivery Programme and opted for the Factory Collection.

The factory tour is thoroughly enjoyable and rather fascinating and this isn't generally open to the general public. Although they have disabled facilities around the factory, the tour party tends to move between the floors using the staircases, so they may even lay on a personal tour for you.

Your factory collection centre representative will give you an in-depth handover of your new car and most of its features, unlike the rushed demo at your local stealer, sorry OPC. Furthermore the factory collection representatives tend to have better product knowledge than your local OPC sales reps and their English is fist class. The factory photographer usually takes a photo of you with your new car and this is then presented to you in a nice A4 size glossy wallet.

Enjoy!

I did a factory collection in July 98 and flew out on the Sunday after the World Cup final with my number plates from Rivervale in Brighton. It was just after they had shut-down the air cooled engine production line and we saw the last non turbo and turbo engines on display. Factory tour was interesting though quite limited as certain areas were out of bounds as new models were going through. Museum has been improved fairly recently so even better. All went smoothly until I arrived at the collection centre desk with my letter from Rivervale to find that they were not expecting me! Car handover by fluent English speaker was very professional and not rushed. Unfortunately my wife was just about to explode so had to drive straight home and could not make a short break. This was when the factory collection was advertised as a no cost option. Despite me advising the dealer that I wished to do a factory collection in my final spec they tried to put me off at the last minute and only after calls to Reading was it arranged just a few days before I flew out. I would recommend it even though of course it's not free now.

Go for it and treat yourself!

Has anyone been to the factory to collect there new porsche, I know its an option at a price, is it worth it? I would imagine it would be a great experience especially if it's your first one?

Roger

I've already spent enough money on my first Porsche.....please don't encourage me to spend any more !!!!!!!!

Absolultely 100% worth it [:)]

How can anyone compare Flying to Stuttgart, being put up in a nice hotel, a tour of the factory, lunch in the posh Porsche Resturant and a few days holiday, with collecting your car from your local dealer?

What a fantastic experience [:)]

(I did it in 2001)

Do it - you won't regret it [8D]

I went almost a year ago and wrote this straight after getting home, was it worth it? YES. http://www.porscheclubgbforum.com/tm.asp?m=102764&mpage=1&key=&#102764

I think it costs around £950, and that is on top of the standard £450 delivery charges, so effectively £1,500 which seems a lot, although I've no doubt it's a fantastic experience.

I think I'll save my £1,000 for some driver training - any recommendations ?

You'll have a great time!

Some previous experiences -->HERE<--

If you and your partner are going, then make sure you both have your drivers licence. Porsche GB tell you only YOU can drive - but when you get there they will put both of you on the insurance as long as you both have your licences!

Plan a holiday around it and you'll have a ball!

I did the Factory collection, I couldn't recommend it enough [:)].
Really well looked after by the tour organiser, the Taxi people where spot on with timings and drop you right outside where you need to be- so no stress about if you haven't been to the factory before.

We were offered various flight times and took the early one in order to spend the day in Stuttgart.
If you have time the new Mercedes Museum is well worth the visit.
You'll have time to do the excisting Porsche museum prior to the factory tour should you wish to take it... then collect your car after lunch.
Heathrow is the normal Airport to fly out from but you can pay a small addition to fly from the airport of your choice.
We chose Birmingham for an additional £15 per person[8D]

Depends on what time of the year your going as to where you may want to venture, Swiss Alps are only 90 minutes away[;)].
Just North of Stuttgart is the Sinsheim museum, you can then get a nice backdrop of Concorde in the pictures [:D]

You will need to take paperwork from the OPC with you, my OPC failed to do so which caused a little stress on the day!! but nothing a calm receptionist and a fax machine can't put right.

Chris, if you have any question feel free to ask.

hi gary

can you recommend hotel near stuggart with good parking ,prefer outskirts rather than in town, and thanks for all your info

chris

Chris, apart from the one that Porsche provided I don't know of any others I can recommend with Parking.
The only one I have heard mentioned more than once is the one mentioned in a thread "golden leaf" http://www.rennteam.com/showflat.php?Cat=0&Number=290478&page=27&fpart=1&vc=1
well worth the read, No mention of Parking though.
Depends really if you want to be nearer the town than Zuffenhausen or not.
On the main road from the city to the factory there were alot of hotels grouped together.

gary

did you have a choice of hotel for collection of your car, looked on google earth hoilday inn looked good, and had good reviews

You should go to the hotel where the club stays for the annual factory trip.

I stayed there on my way back from Italy when I managed to get a factory tour organised. Unfortunately I can't find the details but it is a family run hotel with secure parking and an excellent restaurant. About 10-15 minutes from the factory from recollection.

I'm sure you can find details on the forum or one of the other members will give you the nams.

I can only echo what Gary and others have said - great trip well worth the additional expense. I was told by my 'friendly' OPC that it's not pushed by most salesmen as it is extra hassle for them. PGB Reading sort out the paperwork and and Detours do the rest. We flew from Manchester via Munich (£15 extra) and it worked out really well with taxis and transfers all pre-paid. The hotel they put us in was the Hotel Martine (I think) and included evening meal and breakfast. We left Stuttgart and went up to the champagne region in France and stayed off the beaten track in a Chateau Hotel. Should of made a longer trip of it, but leaving teenage daughters at home curtailed things slightly.
BTW It was so good that my wife has even asked that when we get the next new Porsche she wants to come again! She's one step ahead of me this time![:D]

Hotel Maritim http://www.maritim.de/typo3/english/hotels/hotels/hotel-stuttgart.html was the Hotel provided by Porsche, We weren't offered an alternative.
On arrival we were presented with "Porsche" drinks and meal vouchers. Nice evening meal and drinks, then into the bar as I didn't expect to sleep that much [;)]
Great Hotel centrally located in Stuttgart.
It had parking and I'd of happily stayed an additional night.
However we started off on our trip as we were there the day previous allowing time to visit and view the city.
