At long last Porsche have finally decided to give the Boxster Boys [;)] a factory fitted "Sports Exhaust" from Jan 07 onwards
for the bargain basement price [well compared to chrome tailpipe it is [&o]] of £1022.00 incl

Apparently the Boxster Coupe boys will get the same deal from 01/07 but for some strange reason they are not being charged the usual 14% premium over the Roadster price :ROFLMAO::ROFLMAO::ROFLMAO:

ORIGINAL: Dapster

Can you retrofit and if so, will it be a second mortgage job?

I only have the info relating to MY07 but knowing Porsche "IF" you could retrofit it would probably cost in the region of £1600 [£1100 parts rest labour charges £120ph [:D]] but remember this system is for the bespoke all singing and dancing completely different 3.4L engine :ROFLMAO: so retro is probably a no go [&o]

I'd be willing to bet it fits...
I suspect the only external differences between the 2.5 and 3.4 engines are the posibillity that the variocam 2 heads may be slightly different.
Everything else is all just differences in bore and stroke really. So it would be a suprise to find it not fitting. There may be a difference in the locations of the exhaust fixing brackets though?

Mark .. Porsche wouldn't really want 987 3.2 owners to be able to upgrade to 3.4 Sports Exhaust spec without it costing an absolute fortune[:D] or better still making it technically not on due to the totally different factory accoustic tuning between 3.2 & 3.4 or some sort of spin like that :ROFLMAO:

I've fitted the exhaust as advertised on E-Bay - the "home" made version as one Porsche Technician remarked. This is the one with the two bypasss tubes. I must say it's excellent value for money as the sound is unbelievable. I lost count how many times I have surprised 996's with the sound. (One has actually asked me where I sourced it from !) I'm now investigating retro fitting a butterfly valves in the tubing - just as Porsche do !

Goofy, I have read somewhere in the past about this mod to the Boxster exhaust, but now can't find the info.
do you have a link to it.

Cheers

Re : my "homemade" exhaust bypass tubes:

Success ! I've managed to create a system for switching of when too noisy - for track days. Its all down to a bottle of plonk. As a laugh my other half suggested I just plug the bypass valves with the cork she had just unbottled - it may well be because I was deeply ingrossed in some technical sketches of an elaborate butterfly system and ignoring her (perhaps I misheard her and she meant I take the cork and shove.. ....) . Anyway to get to the point it works. The cork was a slightly tight fit but perfect for sealing. So far after a week of driving no complants - it's back to the original quite sound. Too quiet so I may screw a small diameter hole. Apart from a slight hiccup on start up all seems fine !

Goofy, I'm sorry but I laughed so much I had to change underwear.
State of the art sports car and we are talking about sticking bungs up, and drilling holes in exhausts.
You couldn't make it up.

You've got me worried I may have compromised the state of art technology of my Porsche. However I feel slightly more assured when I think about the extraordinary advanced technology involved. You see these guys in Germany were somehow able to figure out Porsche/Techequipment state of art technology of mating two steel pipes to the input flanges on each silencer, and connecting them to the output flange of each silencer. - hence bypassing the silencer partially, creating that deep bass at idle, with a trumpet top end. So clever was this technology that these guys in Germany were able to adapt it to the standard Porsche Boxster exhaust. thereby creating a sports sounding exhaust using original box and not noticeably different looking. Credit must go to Porsche/Techequip for such advanced state of art thinking - brilliant yet simple, true genius. I feel priviledged that at least some tiny part of this state of art technology has trickled down now into my exhaust although slighlty guilty that some welding and pipework manipulation may have compromised the state of art technolgy of the original box.
However I'm now more worried about those cross drilled disc brakes I've put on. All that drilling of holes in the disc - has it compromised the state of art technolgy of my car now the original non drilled discs have been removed. Oh and that plastic state of art rear screen. what do I do - replace it with the state of art glass screen ? I now will hold my head down in shame everytime a 996/987 asks about my exhaust - just have to say its damaged , too ashamed I've compromised the state of art technology that my Porsche had.

Hee hee.
Well done, Goofy. Crafty of you to put all that in micro-typeface, so that I couldn't really read it properly. Bearing in mind I'm an old pensioner with dim sight.
