Factory Sports Exhaust

My 996 C2 (2002) has a factory sports exhaust but it is the earlier type and is non switchable. While it makes a great sound there are times when I would like to be able to switch back to the standard sound track. I have asked about making it switchable but it appears no one really wants to do this they all appear to just want to fit a new factory system at around 1500!. At my local OPC they have shown me how to manually disconnect the system but this is rather hard work and not really very practical. Any ideas would be appreciated.

I can't see why you couldn't retrofit the control system for the exhaust. AFAIK all the individual parts are available, so if the exhaust boxes have the diverter valves it should be a simple (but time-consuming) job to connect it all up. I would imagine that a decent independent would be able to help you.

The bulk of the £1500 cost is labour- 5.5 hrs. Fitting the switch accounts for much of that time as lots of the interior trim needs to come out.

Thanks Richard/Robert for your responses.

As you and Robert have said this is a time consuming so probably not very cost effect job.
