Failed launch control damage engine and pdk?

Hi all,

Have been trying the launch control function of my newly purchased 997.2 turbo. Couldnt get it working. Everytime i put it on sports plus, left foot on brake and slamp the throttle. The rev goes up but launch control light never came on. I tried like 6 times and couldnt get light on. Have i damaged anything by doing an unsuccessful launch?

Kevin,
Congrats on the purchase, still love mine after nearly 8 years!
I doubt you have done any damage - it would have told you! My guess is that you weren't pressing the throttle all the way down on to the kick down button. The revs should stabilise around 4000, the launch light comes on and away you go. If it's not that then it might be worth getting a diagnostic. Did you buy from PC or other?

Thanks.
I did slam the throttle and see the boost arrow showing up.

I bought it from the porsche dealer whose done the pre inspection on the car. May be i should bring it to the dealer to have a look. Coz everytime i tried, the engine cut me out after a few second

Are you trying it while the engines still 'cold' ? I'm sure the engine, oil in particular, has to be up to temp before the system will allow it to be triggered.

From reaching the stable revs to slipping off the brake pedal should be moments not seconds. There's an awful lot of energy churning around the gearbox going nowhere! It will cut out if you don't release the brake within a certain time.

Yes. I think the engine cut out while i was waiting for the launch control light to come on.

And yes. I only did it when the car is up to operating temperature

Would the pdk clutch behave the same as when its being launched properly? What happens inside the transmission when i step on the throttle while holding the brake?

It's a little unclear what's happening. [8|]
You're stationary with your left foot on the brake, in Sport + mode and in Drive, is that right? Then when you press the throttle to the floor, the engine cuts out, is that correct? If so, you have a fault and need to get it checked out.

If the engine revs to around 5K then levels off and won't rev any further, you're in launch control mode, just lift your foot off the brake and you're away! [:D]

Clive

Thats correct. So i was expecting the rev to hold there at 5 to 6k. But it just keeps going and then cut off.

I would be supprised if there is any issues as the dealer had an inspection when i collected it 3 days ago??

The engine will cut once it reaches the limiter. Sounds like your sequence is wrong somewhere.
Don't be coy with the system and build up the revs gradually, you need to bury your foot to the floor.
So your in gear, in Sport +, left foot heavily on the brake pedal, right foot planted to the floor and keep it there, engine revs to 5K, lift left foot off the brake and keep right foot planted - Bingo you launch with a great kick up the back - very exhilarating! :ROFLMAO:

Clive

Not sure, I never quite had time to look when I had my 997 Turbo S, but you'll know well enough when it's working! [;)]:ROFLMAO:

Yep, sports plus on the left illuminated. The launch control light on the right didnt. The rev goes to the red line and engine shut...
