Failing rear view mirror on 996.2 C2

I noticed a week or so ago that the auto dimming rear view mirror on our 2003 MY 996.2 car has started to fail. Porsche UK has a manual version part number 9967315110101C for £81.22 but I'm not sure if it is a possible replacement other than completely removing the old one including mount from the screen. Has anybody replaced theirs in this way, is it possible? I have seen that there is a company in Texas, USA, that offers a repair service for $99 plus shipping, anybody have any experience of them? Are there any UK companies that offer a similar service? Otherwise I might have to go down the breakers route and take my chances with the length of time it might last.
 
I chickened out on the DIY route for this and have arranged for Porsche Torque to carry out the replacement next week when the car is there for its service. The price for the mirror is considerably less than I could buy it for retail and around half an hour labour on top seems like a good deal.

I looked at the Mirror John offering but wasn't convinced that the replacement mirror would fit and was nervous about opening up the housing without destroying it (plus getting goodness knows what liquid all over me). The US company Radar-Mirror didn't respond to my query about what the "corrosive" liquid actually is and sending corrosive and glass items by courier to the USA doesn't appear to be that easy.

For information, I found a replacement auto dimming mirror part number 996 731 511 02 01C on the Design 911 site and Eurospares. I also found references that stated VW Golf (Mk IV?) mirrors would fit and they can be bought through a famous auction site for a few tens of pounds.

If anyone wants to carry out the replacement themselves, I came across a write up in the 997 forum of 6speedonline under the title "DIY Inside Rearview Mirror (Detach, Disassemble, Fix Rattle/Creaking)".
 
Update after Sid from Porsche Torque fitted the replacement interior auto dimming rear view mirror. Price including fitting was substantially cheaper than I could have bought the mirror retail. Sid was great, collecting our car and dropping it back to us once the service and mirror replacement were finished, I can't recommend him highly enough.
