Failing spoiler light illuminating

I have a '02 996 C4S. It is ordinarily garaged and kept out of the wet whenever possible which is most of the time. I have noticed if it is left out in cold damp conditions for as little as an afternoon and evening that the warning display illuminates for the spoiler function and the spoiler either doesn't function automatically when it should or it raises and stays there. After being returned to its garage (warmed up to dry) overnight it returns to normal working order without attention.
Does anyone have similar experience and/or knowledge of how to prevent it occurring short of leaving it garaged!

I would suggest the first thing to check is the plug & socket connection where the rear deck loom plugs in to the car. It is located on the extreme right hand side of the engine compartment, towards the back of the car.

There are microswitches to detect the end position of the spoiler travel, but I can't find any mention of them in the workshop manual or parts list. I'll try and dig up some info and if I find anything I'll post again.

Thanks Richard, you are clearly one of the fonts of all knowledge that make this whole club thing so viable and worthwhile. I appreciate your time. It is obviously a cold/damp problem, washing doesn't do it so parking it up with a warm engine clears the problem. Perhaps a squirt of goodold WD 40 will prevent the problem reoccuring in the future,

Cheers
