Fake Beru ignition leads?

dunc

New member
Just bought some "new" Beru ignition leads but they don't seem to be as good quality as the Beru ones that have come off the car. The cable appears to be more robust on the old ones, it also says Beru and includes the ignition lead number (No.1, No.2 etc)

The connectors say Beru and match the ones that came off but the plastic 90deg elbow at the spark plug seems cheaper.

Finally they came in an old tatty Beru box.

Have I been done or is there another explanation? My current thinking is they are reworked/refurbished ones using the original connectors.

Thanks,

Dunc.

I wouldn't think there would be much profit in "rebuilding" a set of ignition leads. I wouldn't be surprised to see "improvements" in later manufactured versions due to materials engineering and automated manufacturing. Its not unreasonable to assume new formulations for insulation, etc. would produce a "lighter" cable, elbows, etc. As for the tatty box, it doesn't likely that someone would be able to accumulate used leads and packaging, etc. to set up a reconditioning process.
If you bought these from a private party I suppose it is possible you have a "restored" set but I think it unlikely if they were purchased from a reputable vendor.

Last set I bought for my wife's 924S last year came from ECP ,were Beru ,just as good or better quality than original set on car (from new) & cost me around £62 if I remember correctly( I do get garage trade prices & always ask when paying -can they do something better!)

This is what I was afraid of, when did you purchase those? These are like proper cheapo and if it's the way Beru parts are now I'll know to avoid. They were full Beru price from what I can gather looking around.

I'll see if I can get in contact from someone at Beru, if I can they'll surely be able to put me right on this. It's not unusual for companies to switch to China for Manufacture and take a quality hit for their efforts.

Thanks for the response nelsc but they really are different, I'll try to get a decent pic of them both but not for a few nights because I'm busy.

Cheers,

Duncan.
