FALKEN TYRES FK451 -
245/45R16 94Y

Anybody used these on a turbo?

Tread pattern looks good but do they grip in the wet?

They are very cheap!!!!!!

Mike

Not used them on a Turbo, but the FK451 got good general write ups 3-4 years ago.

I have (similarly priced) Kumho 712s on my Leon and they are good in the dry and have great wear characteristics, but I'd rate them as only "average" in the wet.

If you can stretch to Toyo T1-R I'd go for them. £86.70 a pop (inc VAT and delivery) from Mytyres.co.uk. Add another £5-£7 a corner for fitting at a local tyre place.

(SlimBoyFat just bought a full new set of T1-R's if you want comments on them?)

Is that price for the 245/45R16 ? Excellent if it is.

Black Circles have that size Toyo T1-R at £114.56 inc VAT (not sure about delivery, I think it's included).

Also the Black Circles 'test' info rates the Toyo highly. details here

To answer my own question, yes. They're very keen prices at mytyres

A couple of examples of other sizes comparing Black Circles / mytyres pricing for the Toyo T1-R

205/55R16 £75.67 / £54.30 !!!! [:)]
225/50R16 £77.91 / £71.80

It'll save me the membership cost on this deal alone [:)] - thanks mik_ok

Yeah their prices are excellent.

I've not had any problem with tyres places fitting someone else's tyres ~ so long as you call them in advance and confirm a price for fitting / balance in advance. Stick your postcode into the relevant section on mytyres and it will give you a list of people in your area who won't be snotty about it (some places obviously refuse to fit new tyres they haven't supplied).

One word of warning following comments from others (not my experience) ~ mytyres delivery times can be "variable" so don't order a day before you hit the wear indicators!

Have used FK451's on a 964RS, E30 M3, E28 M5, 968CS, SL280 and am about to shod my S2 with them as well.... in my mind they are a fantastic tyre for sensible money. they make a suitable wet trackday tyre and excellent road tyre... and yes thay look good.. A lot of people say that they do get a lot of tread movement at the limit but thats not anywhere i intend to take them on the road or in the wet! They are quiet as well... you cant go wrong!

Ordered my set last Wednesday (1st), told to expect delivery Friday 10th. Tyres turned up safe and sound yesterday (7th). Excellent service from mytyres.co.uk.

Highly recommended (no personal connection etc... just a very satisfied customer)

Glad to hear it pae. [:)]

But.... up in Scotland last Wednesday was the 29th Jun and yesterday was the 5th Jul.

Are you the new Dr Who then? [;)]

I have the Toyo's and they are very good.

4,500 miles later and no real visible signs of wear.

Excellent

I often use National tyres on my 'normal' cars and they are usually very competitive for me. As a result , I just put that tyre size and rating in as a comparison. I ws going to say for me I'd prefer my tyres fitted where I bought them for the free puncture repairs + piece of mind etc. All I can say is ' bloomin eck' ( plus a few choice words more).

I hope those tyres are O.K because the cheapest I got was 140 a tyre and that was for Uniroyals ! Continentals were 169 each ( all fitted).
I know Falkens are well thought of here not not which Falkens are and which not.

Best of luck
Mas

Personally, I'd pay the extra fiver a tyre and get the FK452, which is their more sporting tyre:

Lots of people fit them to their 944/68 and really like them.

I haven't used them on my 968 yet, but I've used them on my other car, and they're a very good tyre. Not quite as good as some of the more premium brands, but a still a damn good tyre for the money.

I have the next one up in the Falkens, F-452 got them from black circle for a good price fitted.

They seem good in the wet and ok in the dry. When pushed the car understeers, so good for the cost but don't perform as well as say the Toyo or Goodyear.

Me too, had them fitted at the local Blackcircle franchise who were real enthusiasts. About £75 per tyre a year or so ago.

Seems the Falkens perform well on the lesser powered S2/S3 (sorry 968). But can't contain the extra power the turbo has! [;)][;)]

I have the 452s on the back of mine, cost me £110 each fitted at my local tyre place about 18 months ago and they are fantastic.

Will put them on the front as well in around 2014 when the P6000s wear out....

Thanks for the replys, sounds like I'll be getting the 452's at only a tenner extra for the pair they seem good value for money. I'm curious that they have two Falken tyres of the same size with only £5 difference in the price though.

I'm not worried about buying them online and having them fitted locally, I can't remember ever needing to claim on a new tyre warranty or puncture insurance ( damn that means it'll happen now !! )
