False low windscreen washer fluid warning

My Gen 2 Cayman S has just started intermittently warning me of low windscreen washer fluid level, even though the reservoir is full. I imagine the system is common to all recent models. Has anyone experienced this and can point me at the likely problem and how to fix it please (eg sensor)?

Sounds like a malfunctioning sensor/float in the reservoir Brian, although I've not experienced the problem. I don't think that removing the reservoir is too challenging a task. It's just a case of removing the passenger-side wheel arch liner to gain access to the reservoir to check out the sensor. Whether or not the sensor is a replaceable item is another matter, but your OPC should be able to help you there. There may be an appropriate article on RennTech.org if you want to register there. Hope that's of some use. Jeff

Thanks Jeff. I've found a "tank gauge switch" on the parts list so I guess that's the place to start.....

Just a thought Brian but if you're going to DIY, it would be useful to take some pics and post something on this Register forum. There's an unfortunate dearth of tech stuff on here..! Good luck with it anyway and keep us posted on progress. Jeff Edit: Just a thought but if you need additional input, Richard Hamilton (996 Tech Guru) might be able to help. I'm sure that the 996 uses a similar washer reservoir arrangement to that on the Cayman owing to the fact that the 911/Boxster/Cayman series vehicles share the same front end structure.
