Morning Guys

I though I'd find somethign on here in regards to replacing a loose fan belt, but I can't see anything

My fan belt is screeching pretty good now and needs replacing.

Can anyone tell me if this is an easy job or not,
The size of the belt? Where I could maybe purchase it from

are there any guides

Is it difficult to get the right tension

thanks for your help

Scott

Belts are available from pretty much any motor factorand it is an easy job to do [:)] belts are a polyrib belt with 5 or 6 grooves. Don't know the age of your car. There is a tensioning bar with left and right handed threads to do all the tensioning work for you. A good rule of thumb is to be able to turn the belt through 90 degrees then it should be ok. You will have to jack the car up as you need access from underneath and will have to remove the undertray. All simple stuff. If you get stuck it's in the workshop manual or a guide to this and many other things is on www.clarks-garage.com Have a go it's easy.

944's don't have fan belts do they? I know my S2 doesn't - its electrical. A noisey belt could be the Power Steering belt - it was on mine. Or maybe alternator

No they don't they have a power steering belt yes and also to give it it's proper name an accessory drive belt. Many do still refer to them as fan belts though. It is more likely to be the latter as it takes quite a lot if load. Try switching on your demister and fan to speed 4 and see if gets worse. It could possibly be the power steering belt, which might get worse under full lock when it is working hardest. Both are an easy change.

Sorry,

Accessory belt it is- Demister most definately makes it worse.
It's not power steering.

My car is a 1987 lux

I'd love to buy a belt on the way home from work in autosave/halfords, can anyone tell me the size?

I'm happy enough to do the work myself

thanks very much

Scott

As it happens I have one right here. The one I have is QH (Quinten Hazell) which is a fairly common make the part number is QBR61000. Failing that it will be in their auto data books anyway mate. Just give them the car details.
