Fan Belt sensor

Hi all,

wondering if you can help with this one. Fan belt sensor is tripping when low tiptronic gears engaged. This results in the exclamation mark lighting up and the sensor it the clock, for 30 seconds/a minute.

The fan belt is fine and teh car is booked in for a few thisng to be looked at, this being one of them next week. in the emantime if I disconect the sensor it results in teh warning light being permanently on (the better of two evils perhaps) my question is, can i do something temporary to extinguish the light completely?

Thanks

Jerome,

I believe the sensor is mounted on an adjustable mount so it may be that a small adjustment might position it such that it's less temperamental.

If you just want to extinguish the light the obvious thing is to jjust remove the bulb - but I'm not keen on that type of solution. You'll still be left with the "!" light - and you don't want to remove that since it is used for other things too.

Regards

Dave

I had a similar problem and found repacement of the sensor inexpensive and straightforward. I would say, given the intermittent nature of the fault that it's preferable to live with it as it is until you can replace the sensor because if the belt really does fail then you stand a chance of noticing that the ararm is "on" continuously. Mine's a manual, and I don't know why the relationship to your tip gear selection is causing the problem, but I recall when mine went it was intermittent and engine rev related, presumably because of vibrations and centrifugal forces combining with a worn out sensor.

...Paul.

I think you're spot on here Paul, its low revs and the effects of those that cause it! New sensor next Wednesday methinks....

Had same on my manual C2. You can disconnect and the light will stay on. Not an issue, but keep an eye on the temperature gauges. I had mine off for about 2 weeks, it was much better than the light going on and off all the time. Also make sure you tie up the loose cables.

Again, the sensors are cheap to replace and it is an easy job.
