FAN CONTROLS, DASH BOARD

Hi, now its getting hotter I need to get round to fixing the fan switch. The first problem was stopping the continual heat that seemed to be fed into the cab which has now been sorted as I had a flapper box jammed in the open position, PHEW!!
I would like to create more cool air at the front rather than relying on the small dash vents when at speed. There is power getting to the switch as you slide it along the small fan picture illuminates but no increase in the fan at all, there was some life in the fan a few months back on number 1 but now nothing no matter how I slide it across.

Any ideas chaps

Could be the fan motor giving up, they are mounted under the scuttle panel fairly easy job to do. I got a replacement motor from Malton Specialist Cars about £50 for the genuine thing fan now much more controllable.

I've been here!!

For some reason best known to Porsche the fresh air blower has power all the time that the ignition's on & the switch actually earths it when switched on.

The different speeds are acheaved by resistors between the switch & the earth point located on the bulkhead.

My faulty blower switch turned out to be a bad earth but it's a pig to get at
for testing........removing the radio helps a bit.

Good luck!

Thanks John, I'm going to try mine in the next couple of days, its a 1983 so it should be the same however I don't have a fuse at position number 7? I rebuilt the fuse box in the spring as the previous owner had made a bit of a hash of it so I suspect this could be part of my problem although as I say it has power going to it as it illuminates when you slide the switch along.

I have attached a picture of my fuse box, I suspect the wires for the fan have been placed elsewhere on another fuse!!! Could you have a look at yours and see what colour wires are used top and bottom of the fuse and the fuse size and I might be able to fathom this out.

Thanks again.

Did all the checks as you suggested John and sure enough, the motor was dead, wiring seems fine dispite missing fuse!! Bought a new motor from PORSHA-PART £39+ vat P&P, fitted it today and works a treat, just as well in this weather, Phew!!

Thanks again John

Cheers
