Fan Removal advise please

DESMO16

New member
I have been spending alot of time detailing the car and engine bay.
I now want to re-enamel the fanblade, how do I remove it?
On my RS there is a large bolt(approx 25mm) with 3 smaller nuts (approx 10mm) surrounding it.
Do I remove all these bolts or just the large one?
Do I need any specialist pullers etc?

Thanks for any help

John

John, I can't believe you don't know about

http://p-car.com/diy/alternator/alternator.html

Now get spannering ... I think that would be a 3 spanner job !

PS the RS pulley is different only in that the normally separate drives to fan and alternator are bolted together to the single pulley by the 3 small bolts ... (I have one waiting to go on mine! [;)])

cheers, Maurice [:D]
Thanks Maurice,
But bl[8|][8|]dy hell looks like a big job might be about to break out!!!!!!!!
I better get hold of Colin at 9m [:D][:D]

If you want to keep the RS on the road I have a spare that I can fit for you whilst you get it polished or painted, JP.

Cheers Colin,
Just a few questions:-
How long does it take to swap over?
Can you also ask Mark to paint it or should it be enamelled?
What colour do you recommend..Red, black, or keep it factory gray and do you usually just paint the fan only or the surround as well?
Anyone got any photos of previous jobs?
Finally any idea of costs?

Cheers
John

John, I did it on my old clubsport, I kept it silver. The worst part was refitting the fan trying not to scratch the shroud or fan on re-assembly. Look forward to catching up when you have the car back on the road..

John, not sure I can make it to Oulton...it's along way to go just to spectate....I am stil looking for a bl***y car!

It looks like a great car Andy, but "have been there, done that & ticked it off!" I am sure you will have no trouble selling it.

When I went from 3.2CS to a new sports optioned 996 facelift I knew within 10 mins I was going back to a smaller 911 bodyshape........hence buying my last 993RS.
Be interesting how you feel about it after a while, the magnificent Gt3 engine will be probably be the overriding factor.

Bears do in the wood you know
