I have just bought a 944 s2 and am sorting out the usual teething problems .when I turn the ignition to the first click, nothing is switched on and yet there is a constant sound of a heater fan running slowly.any ideas please, secondly I went to remove the steering wheel to investigate a plastic grinding sound from the column shroud area but could not remove the centre cover to get to the nut.the w/shop manual says just pull this off(no airbag) and remove the wheel. I wonder if the last owner stuck this on.any help would be great, many thanks.

fan running ?

Fan running all the time is just to get a minimal amount of air flow through the car to stop it getting stale and stuffy - nothing especially clever or Germanic.
The pad in the middle of the lozenge (I guess the lozenge itself in fact) is quite flexible. When you pull it it will bend and the surface will wrinkle, but it springs back and looks fine. In the worst case if you broke it you could pick a replacement up for tuppence ha'penny as I think that I am the only person on the planet who likes them.
