RAD FAN SWITCH 924/944 2 pin

Is this what I need to order for my S2?? I ask because the switch has two pins and
the plug on my S2 has three sockets for three pins, do I need a 3 pin rad switch??

if so why, surely the switch is on or off, no need for three pins so why is there three sockets in the plug?

many thanks
cheers

I tried phoning Bert Gear to ask about this, but answerphone only. I've rigged up a switch so I can switch the fan on manually in the meantime! Bodge, yes but better than overheating.

In PET, up to 1988 there are two switches listed for the 944, 944.606.481.00 and 951.606.481.00. The 951 .... switch is only listed for turbo, the S2 is not mentioned. In 1989 the S2 is listed as requiring 951.6063.481.00. That's as much sense as I can make of PET. My gut feeling is that if the old switch has three connectors Porsche put them there for a reason.

You need the 3 pin version, it is 2 thermostats in the one unit operating at different temperatures. Usually operates the second fan at higher temperatures

My S2 has twin fans because it was originally fitted with A/con I've never really checked if they both come on at once and have two speeds or if one of them comes on first then the second fan at a higher temperature I assume the sender has to have 2x senders and three terminals 2 switch live and one common earth
Each of the fans has its own fused supply. Not sure if that helps or not really ?!

just replace it with the same part, there will be two speeds thus the three pin switch

Question answered, I got through to Bert and he does stock the 3 pin fan switch and it has this part number:-

951.606.481.00

So there is indeed a different rad fan switch for the S2 and turbo to the earlier 944's and it does have three pins.
Problem solved- thanks for your input guys.

The three pin switch is fitted to cars with a/c and the S2. It has two thermostats internally that switch at 92oC and 102oC which switch the fans on slow and then fast (ignition on) or slow (ignition off). Part is available from GSF for £4.75

Ta for the GSF tip. Is it OEM or genuine part from GSF or pattern?? Just looked it up for the S2

I'd prefer to fit the genuine or OEM item.

It's gone up since I bought one then. It's not branded Porsche in any way but it might be made by the same supplier nevertheless. Works fine. I don't see a problem with fitting none-OEM on such a basic part but that's up to you.
