Hi there,

Just to answer your questions from the other thread...

ORIGINAL: RSGulp

Post some pics of the RS, Bryn. Did you view the car in person out in Japan, or did you buy it based on pictures and description alone (which seems to happen quite a bit in RS circles).

Would also be interested to know what you think about the driving experience and how it compares to some of the other interesting cars you've driven.

I was not able to view the car before buying it, and had to make a decision based on the 2 very small photos that you see on my site. However I have a very good agent out there who was able to describe the car in more detail for me before I made a decision. He is not a Porsche expert however so it was still a risk, although one worth taking in my opinion. Tomorrow I am meeting for lunch with a guy who is based in Tokyo and is a Porsche expert. He can buy cars direct from their private owners for me which I am quite excited about. Through him I should be able to find some very rare and exciting Porsches in fantastic condition, including the rarest of RS's. Once I am a bit more established (if I ever get that far!), I hope to fly out every month or so to inspect what cars are available for myself and buy them in person.

Regarding the driving experience and what I expect from the 964RS, well I've been giving it some thought over the last few days. I've been driving a 964 C2 for the last few months which I thoroughly enjoyed. On Friday however I took delivery of a G50 3.2 Carrera which I have to say is really my kind of car. Its very low and very firm and I love the 'rawness' and lack of power assistance to the steering. So I guess what I'm hoping for from the RS is the rawness of the 3.2 with the gutsy engine of the RS. That I think will be something quite special indeed and something I'm very much looking forward to [:)]

Cheers,
Bryn.

Good luck Bryn - but be VERY VERY careful - getting the wrong cars or what you are told or think are the right cars can be very costly mistakes.

Most UK buyers of RS porsches of all varieties are normally very switched on or will get inspections done by real experts...if you get a car which is 'not right' you may have trouble moving it on at any price.

Good luck though and let us know what you buy.

Thanks for your reply and advice Jason. I realise that the RS market is very specialist and that finding the right cars is paramount. I've spent over 2 years looking at them in Japan before I finally found one that I was happy with, so hopefully my dilligence will have got me a good car. I have all of my Porsches inspected by John at Unit 11 in Warrington and he's been amazed by the condition of the other 911's that I've imported this year. When the RS arrives it will be going straight to him for an inspection and probably to Ninemeister too for a second opinion.
With my new contact in Japan I will have access to all of the privately owned cars from collections etc so although the prices may be higher, I can be pretty sure that the cars are about as good as you will find anywhere.

I will try to keep you updated with what I find, whilst at the same time treading the fine line between being an active forum member and not being seen to be advertising on here!

Cheers,
Bryn.
