Hope someone is finding the FAQ page of some use.
I've revised and added more content to it and have noticed that it's gained a few hits since.
If there is anything you would like to see added let me know here.
BTW just to make sure someone is reading this, I will send a 924 Register 30th Anniversary sticker and Register sticker to the first three people to respond to this post!

another good question concerns oil consumption.Ours varies;these engines were meant to use oil; something like 1 litre per 1000miles at the speeds I mention.

That's a good question for the forum after the unleaded fuel bit.
What average MPG can I expect from my 924?
Will add your figure now, as well as mine.

Does anyone have a feel or know where I can obtain some information of the numbers of 924/944 variants either still in use or undergoing restoration to bring them back into use?
I appreciate not everyone joins forums and therefore details are never going to be complete, however the E31 (BMW 8 Series) have undertaken a database of all VIN numbers, owners and where in the world they are located. If I remember correctly this is around 98% complete which is a phenomenal result for the marque.
Thanks
Stuart
A few years ago I obtained numbers of 924 cars registered with the DVLA both on the road and on SORN, I forget the numbers now but it probably on this forum somewhere.
Who carried out the work finding the 8 series cars and what channels did they use to find cars worldwide?
Of course there are a lot more 924 models in the world and my database only contains a tiny fraction of UK cars.
Would be great to start a worldwide database but it's a massive roject for anyone.

Thanks for your reply, the 8 Series undertaking was carried out between a Mod and BMW's production figures (worldwide) which they were happy to supply, I was wrong in my original assessment, all 8 series have in fact been accounted for.
Not such a formidable task when you compare it with the actual production figures released by BMW
Total Worldwide Number of units per model:
* 1993-99 - 840Ci - 7,803
* 1989-99 - 850i/Ci - 21,290
* 1993-96 - 850CSi - 1,510
* 1992 - 830Ci - 18 (NOTE: evaluation units, all crushed by BMW AG)
I suspect this is considerably less than the corresponding production of 924/944 (931/951968's) but with co-operation it could still be achievable.
As I am now retired, I am more than happy to discuss the undertaking on behalf of the above groups, but unless we can get posts into other groups, and have some co-operation from Porsche, we are unlikely to get exact figures. However, the longer we leave it the less chance we have. Cars die or are killed on a regular basis especially of this age.
If you know anyone within the group who help to sponsor such a task, I can develop the database to see the club's needs.
Kind regards
Stuart

I have an '84 924 in red and need some paint - (aerosol spray can) - Halfords had the correct "menu" to make up, but then discovered that one of the "ingrediants" had been stoped due to Health & Safety concerns so they could not supply.
Any advice on where I could get an alternative supplier / material in spray can please?
