Fast Road Geo - CG or JZM ?

Hi all,

I want to get the geo done on my 996 Turbo for Fast Road/A Road driving.

I know that Chris at Centre Gravity has been the go to man for this over the last few years but JZM also offer this service now.

JZM is nearer to me so I am tempted to use them but wanted to know if anyone here has used them for Geo setup and would like to hear of your experience and thoughts on the result.

Also, if anyone has happened to you use both Chris and JZM - how do they compare ?

Thanks

used Chris at centre gravity for my Turbo S and his attention to detail was tremendous, appreciate others can offer this service but I went to Chris travelling all the way from North East England and would do so again.

Cant comment on JZM

Another vote for Chris, but if I couldn't get to Chris I would go to Peter Tognola in Datchet. He has the same equipment as Chris, and knows how to use it.

Had my GT3 done at JZ it had major issues with road handerling JZ sorted it very well and i believe they are doing a deal on wheel geo at the moment.

Also on my other GT3 Mk1 i had the Geo done at GT Marques Paul Mace also very good and no problems.

Thanks guys. Yes, JZM are doing a deal of £170+VAT which in addition to the distance, is an additional attraction [;)]

If you're near to JZM, there's another company who do geos:

http://perfect-touch.co.uk

Unit G,
Belcon Industrial Estate, Bingley Road,
Hoddesdon, Hertfordshire
EN11 0NX

These guys are sponsoring, and taking care of, one of the Boxsters in the BRSCC Porsche Championship. They use a Beissbarth rig like Chris does.

I am quite certain both will do a good job I saw your post attract vociferous comments for against on pistonheads

For the record Chris has done my turbo and my custom golf he put the x73 on the turbo and then did anopther geo after and with the golf a full corner weight do dah set up

the golf was really beautifully balanced when finished he set the car up for race on reflection maybe not ideal for the road it had toe out

with chris you get an anal obsessive level of checking and detail be prepared to take a sleeping bag I am not joking! he finishes when he thinks it is right and that can be quite late into the night

yes i would use him again the total outlay can be quite high but i have never seen any one else be so obsessive about getting it right, its the small things he does your weight in the car etc

having said that the distance can be off putting for the golf i have had subsequent track rod or cv work that has needed doing and as the car is a daily driver i needed sosmething doing quick and so went local but when the suspension needs a full geo again after the shocks get refurbed and the steering rack gets changed i will be back

but I reiterate I am quite sure JZM will do a good job and with chris you will wait for 6 weeks and the cost will certinly be higher than £170 you pays your money......

Mike from sports and classic also gets a thumbs up be he is even further away

OPC Bristol (though it could be national?) are doing a very good deal at present on alignment that "returns your car to its original settings." - £150 all in plus a £30 voucher to spend on the Porsche Design range, visual inspection and underside power wash.

Works for me...

I agree about Chris's attention to detail. He examines everything, even if it has to be removed to check it properly.

People go on about a "Fast Road Geo" but it is nonsense really. What I found was that Chris listened to what I wanted from the car, and how I wanted it to feel. The roads in my area are absolutely dreadful, and my biggest problem was that when I was pressing on, on bumpy roads, the car felt like it was driving me, not the other way round. I was constantly correcting it, and it wasn't at all comfortable. Chris ended up putting the camber to the upright limit on front and rear, and towards the maximum toe-in on the front. It made the car hugely more stable and confidence inspiring. For me it was a "Fast Road Geo" but for someone else it would be far from their criteria.

That's where he really scored for me.
