Fault 31 left mixer

Hi guys,

Just a quick post to say that I have fixed the servo fault 31. Just in case anyone is interested this is how i knew about it and then fixed it saving myself ££££.

1) I used my new scan tool to check over the car (just for fun because i just got it!!!)
2) The scanner revealed that there was a problem with the left mixer servo. (Darn)
3) After a few days i decided to remove it and see what the problem was.
4)I found that the mixer rod was jammed so i removed the cover for the left blower motor and disconnected the rod from the servo.
5) Inside there is a disc that fits just infront the fan. This had became dislodged resulting in the mixer rod arm hitting it thus causing the jam.
6) I refitted the disc and carfully refitted the cover. I then tested the fan to make sure it did not rub and that i could manually move the rod.Which i could.
7) I removed the servo and checked the servo but it would not move, this is done by putting a 12v supply on pins 4 and 5 (they are numbered)
8) I proceded to remove the mixer arm from the servo and using a small screwdriver i opened the servo module up. There is a write up on how to do this http://www.porsche964.co.uk/
9) I checked my pot connections a everything seemed ok although i did clean them with some electrical cleaner.
10) I reassembled and to my horror it still did not work!!
11) Took apart again (I dont give up easily!!)
12) I tested the motor using 9v battery and it was ok.
13) Next I put a meter from each connection on the plug to corresponding tracks on the circuit board.
14) I found that there was a break in one track. I soldered on a piece of wire bypassing the broken part of the circuit and reassembled.
15) Tested again with pin 4-5 and it worked!!
16) Put back in car and set the temp to min on the ccu i then moved the arm to suit .
17) moved to max on ccu and all looked ok.
18) Plugged in the scan tool and cleared the fault in the memoy.
19) Tested all settings and re checked with the scanner.
20) All faults clear.

The Scan tool was a great purchase and i am glad that i could fix my servo.

Well done Tim!! I've got to check my footwell flap servo - moving the footwell slider on the CCU doesn't seem to do much so I'll have to do a similar thin I think.

hi paul,

I have one that I bought from the states, I cant remember exact price but it was around 190 dollars delivered so about 100 quid. ricardo.x.david@gmail.com was the guy I got mine from. With unlimited car use.
I was also looking at this one http://www.durametric.com/buyus.aspx

Both are very nearly the same but the one from durametric has a 3 car limit on the software unless you purchase the pro kit which covers most models and unlimited cars but it costs $697 about 340 pounds. The basic version to suit Porsche 928, 944S2, 968, 964 or 1994-1995 Porsche 993 with a round diagnostic connector is $296 with 3 car limit. I think that the durametric kit is slighly better because it allows for models than the one i have if you buy the pro version But i cant see myself selling my 964 and therefore I could not justify the extra 200 pounds or so for the pro kit to diagnose a car that I dont own.

Hope this helps
