is there anyone is the Nottingham area with a fault code reader willing to pull the error codes from my Tiptronic box?

thanks in advance

you can get an error code ready form ebay for £45 that plugs into usb on a laptop :)
True, but it might not display the Porsche-specific codes, especially on the Tiptronic control module.

I use an OBD2 diagnostic code reader but this will only read the generic P-codes which mostly relate to the powertrain. Not having experience of a Tiptronic I can't say for sure, but as others have said my suspicion is that most faults in the tranmission generate only Porsche specific codes which you cannot read with a generic reader; only the Porsche PIWIS tools will do this I understand.

Hello All

Im new here..rather then start another thread on a similar subject Ill post here.

2000 2.7 manual has just gone into limp mode, no engine management lights displayed and my RAC fault code reader says "no code".

Engine wont rev about aprox 1400 rpm (very slowly)

What are my options? Im based in Sidcup, South East London/ Kent border.

Thanks in advance and sorry for "hijacking" a thread!

to get it out of limp mode, i think... disconnect the battery for around 30 mins, ( make sure you have the code for radio. this should take it out of limp mode

Thanks for that...Ill give it a try and see how we got on!

Bizzare its gone into limp mode without an apparent ecu fault.

the wonderful world of electronics...my other car has a Carb! :)

The car is alarming when I take the battery off....more alarming is the smoke coming out of the exhaust!

It smells quite odd too

Most common issue on these cars with symptoms like these?

Thanks again

There is a backup battery for the alarm so when the battery is disconnected it will sound. This is normal. To avoid the alarm going off I seem to remember you need to put the key in the ignition, turn it to the first position AND then disconnect the battery. As for the smoke that might indicate an issue, but smoke on start up for a couple of seconds sometimes is not unusual as oil left in the cylinders gets burnt off.

You are not disconnecting the battery with the engine running are you? I don't think that's what was meant...

Its been to a garage that deals with alot of Porsches and they think its the engines ECU.

It could be a big money repair as you cant recode a second hand part or something?

I'd definitely get a second opinion! It might be worth checking the rear trunk behind the trim panel to see if there's any damp or water getting into the ECM (engine control module) and check the harness connector is plugged in tight and the pins aren't corroded. The symptoms don't suggest it's anything to do with the ATM (anti-theft module), but you've got nothing to lose checking underneath the passenger seat to see if the carpet is wet and the ATM is OK.
