Faulty Alternator - Can it be replaced by anyone?

Hi Everyone,

My 2005 997.1 I think has a broken alternator. I get the battery/generator light and checked the voltages and it is down. I drive my car everyday for work and have been charging up the battery everynight.
But, my usual garage can't fit me in for another 2 weeks. I wondered if anyone knew if this was something I can get repaired anywhere (non-Porsche specialist)? I have read it is not a particularly complicated job, just can be fiddly and needs the right tools (which I don't have). Is it not recommended that it is done by a non-Porsche specialist.

Thanks
Marc

If you have another garage you trust then they will likely be able to do it.

Personally, I wouldn’t use a random garage you have never used before.

Thanks Malarcy

I have a standard high street garage I use for my VW Golf for years and they have always done a good job. I just didn't know if it was advisable to take it there or not?

Suggest ask them if they are comfortable doing it - there's nothing special about it - its just in a different place to the "usual" - they may want to have a look - if they have auto data then the "how to" will likely be there.
