faulty horn

Hi, had a problem with the horn not working on my 97 boxster when i first purchased it. It turned out to be nothing more than a fuse, i have used it little since, today i blew someone up who cut me up, and since then it has stopped working. I checked the fuse, and that is ok but i changed it anyway, but still not working. any clues anyone.
regards daws.

Can you hear the relay clicking on the board in the driver's footwell (above the fuse board)? It is relay 10 - the second one down, on the far right hand side of the relay support.

Most likely though are the horns themselves. They collect all the cr*p from the road as they are just behind the front PU, and it's common for them to fail.

Thanks richard, will look at it and let you know. Is the horn easy enough to get at? as my wife, also hasa boxster and if t is easy to change,i will swap them over to test it.thanks again, dawson.

Have you checked if it works with the ignition off?

Mine works fine with the ignition off but nothing as soon as you turn the key, this is quite rare but i have discovered it is the earth cable from the horn that breaks internally as it bends through 90 degrees underneath the air bag and dissapears into the steering column.
Not sure why it works when the ignition is off but clearly it finds another earthing route

Hi guys, just had a look at the relays, it does click when steering wheel is pressed, but whilst pressing the wheel, it started to work again,(really wierd) any clues as why. regards dawson, also i noticed that under the bonnet on my wifes car ,she has a black pipe that comes out of the brake fluid reservoir, along with the2 steel pipes. On my car the black pipe is missing, do you know its function, as mine as always been missing.Cheers all.

Are both horns working (high and low pitch)? The high pitch one can be changed by getting to it through the sound outlet opening, but you have to take off the front PU to get at the low pitch one. If your fault is intermittent, as you describe, it sounds to me like a bad connection or contact somewhere, or as Glyn suggests, a poor earth.

Edit: What year is your wife's car?

Hi, richard thanks for the thumnails, will check them out, as regards to my reserviour, mine has an opening for the pipe the same as my wifes, but no pipe, would of thought that the end would have been capped if it was a blank, the car have been working ok since i have had it though. thanks again,
dawson.
