Faulty Speedo?

Hi!

I recently bought an 88' 944 and realised that the speedometer works... occationally. Being a DIY enthusiast I have decided to fix it myself but, despite having a Heines manual, can't quite figure out whats going on. So I'd greatly appreciate all help!

The speedometer simply stops working every few days. The speed needle falls to zero (this could happen when moving, when stopped, at any time). The odometer also stops working so I believe it must be a faulty contact somewhere between the speedometer and the dashboard.

Here are a couple of photos of where I'm looking for the speedo (attached to this post). On the diagram, I'm looking underneath the flange on the left side. The photo shows what I think is the speedo. Am I far off?

Thanks a lot!
Alex

It's usually the connection to the gearbox. It's quite near the top, I thought driver's side but someone on Titanic posted recently he thought the other side so I could well be wrong.

yes passenger side, the reverse light switch is on the drivers side, mine has just failed too,[:(]
