Faulty temp gauge

I am after some advice please. I have previously posted about the temp gauge in my '98 C2 but haven't got round to logging in again until now. The problems began with erratic movement of the needle, and this has now progressed to the needle being stuck at the top of the fuel gauge. I have had the sensor replaced but that did not solve the problem. The engine is not overheating and the fan is coming on at the right time. What else could it be? And depending on what it is, can I repair myself? All suggestions welcome! Thanks

I'm no electrical expert but if the 996 does as the 944 when these circuits go "open circuit" they default to max setting to highlight there is a problem. So there is a problem within the wires between the gauge and sensor and/or a poor earth.
In the 944 it tended to be the connectors behind the gauge itself which would first show up as a bouncy needle, as you had.

Not alot of help but someone with some knowledge with a multimeter would be able to check for continuity on the circuits and identify where the problem is.

Thanks for the reply, I don't suppose you know how easy it is to get behind the clocks.....??

Take off the hazard warning light bezel and switch button, and the microphone cover, and you will see two Torx screws. Undo them, and the cluster lifts off. The connectors are on the underside.

If you want the instructions and wiring diagrams, drop me an email.
