Favourite Yorkshire roads

[FONT=Arial"]As we all know, Yorkshire has some of the best roads in the country for serious motoring. Which is your favourite road and why?[FONT=verdana, geneva"]

Try York - Stamford Bridge - Sledmere - Bridlington - Driffield - Howden.

Great surfaces - open views - testing tight section near Sledmere.

Few HGVs but watch out for tractors.

No speed cameras but watch out going in to Howden for mobile camera.

Summer Saturdays and Sundays can be really busy but still fun.

Hope this helps,

Andrew

[FONT=Arial"]is stamford bridge still closed though? i did part of the above-mentioned route last week on the way to scarborough. by the way, there is a very nice bit of road between stamford bridge and norton/malton.[FONT=verdana,geneva"]

Yes Stamford Bridge is still closed but there is a diversion via Buttercrambe ( c. 2 miles long ) which is easy to use. Actually closure is a benefit as many people are scared off by it therefore road is clearer.
The road from Stamford Bridge up to Malton IS good and you can then loop back if you wish by cutting off in Norton to Wharram and picking up original route to Sledmere OR by going straight down A64 then taking Filey turn over Folkton Brow and then using main road down to Bridlington ( but it does get really busy ).

[FONT=Arial"]Just for fun, I drove the Buttertubs Pass (Hawes to Muker) yesterday as I'd heard about it in various car magazines etc. Well, I can report back that it's an excellent stretch of road apart from annoying cattle grids and the odd suicidal sheep. There was light rain when I was there meaning some restraint was required to avoid going over the edge. This is no place for vertigo sufferers by the way! I've tried to upload a photo from the internet - hope it works.

Also, Muker to Reeth to Richmond is a pleasant drive along the river Swale. Fast in places but maybe a bit too narrow in others.[FONT=verdana, geneva"]

These are the roads my car spends most of its life on [:D]
