feeble brakes

moved from a 993 to a 2001 996 3.4 2 weeks ago.....

everything's great apart from the brakes!

I immediately noticed they were much less powerful than my 993, needed a much firmer stamp and even then having far less stopping capability.

at first I though it was the disks/pads needing a good scrub after the car being on the forecourt for a while..

but over the last 2 weeks they seem to have got more and more 'spongy' to the point where now I'm braking for twice as long before a corner than in the 993.

the car has a full service history and is in excellent condition.

any advice/comments?

Never heard of a 996 being accused of having dodgy brakes. Should get them checked out if I were you

I had a set of Goodridge Stainless Steel Brake Hoses fitted at my last service and a change of fluid on my BoxS.
The difference is amazing, more feel, less travel and great stopping power.
I too felt the same as you when comparing my old 964 to the BoxS.
They were £50+ the usual from http://www.design911.co.uk/index.htm?Region=UK

Have you checked the condition of the inner faces of the disks? Porsche brakes corrode quite badly, esp. if the car is washed and then left without being taken for a run to dry off the brakes. The outsides may look shiny but the inner faces can pit very badly and the performance suffers.
