Just spent a very pleasant day as the guest of H.R. Owen in Kensington reviewing Ferrari's fabulous new model. This was a pre-production version, but it looked pretty much all together to me! [;)]

Although not obvious, this is a new colour - it's metallic when up close and personal

Funny how I felt right at home sitting in this cabin!

4 litre twin turbo V8 produces 670 metric HP and torque of 760 Nm. 0-62 in 3 sec. and 0 to 125 in 8.3 sec.
Sublime exhaust note (I was allowed to fire it up in the showroom! [:)])

The gearbox has Variable Torque Management to distribute the torque smoothly and powerfully across the rev range. There is an evolved version of the Side Slip Angle Control system, ( Drift Control to you or I) F1-Trac and E-Diff with active dampers and it laps the Fiorano track in just 1.23".

Now for the downside. Base price is £184K + £30/£40K for the on-road accessories. The price doesn't appear to be putting people off though as HRO have already taken 40 odd deposits each of £20K and cannot supply a car now until March 2017.

So makes a Porsche 911 Turbo seem a bargain - and readily available too! [:D]

Regards,

Clive.

Still prefer a 991 Turbo S - especially as evo mag tested it at 0-60 in 2.6 secs! It lapped Anglesey circuit only about 3 secs slower than the Macca P1's 1min. 11secs and we all know how much that costs!

Mmmm.....

McLaren Power Max 595 BHP Torque 600 Nm 0 -124mph - 9.1 secs

Ferrari Power Max 670BHP Torque 760Nm 0 -124mph -8.5 secs

You may need spectacles and some brave pills! [;)] [:D]

Regards,

Clive.

0-200kph (124mph)

Lambo Huracan = 9.0 secs
991 Turbo S = 9.6 secs
My car = 10.4 secs

So that F car is very fast!

Well put Alex

I'd have said its Ferarri-ing fast. The Turbo S at 9.6 requires counter breathing.... the macca at 9.1 must be hilarious but 8.5 - Woops licence gone, breath gone, sanity gone.......

You know you want to Clive...... for me it might be a lime green hurracan.........or the new junior Macca

I'm not a good enough driver to have more than 500bhp without AWD, especially in the wet. Bumpy back roads (where I spend most of my time) don't help the case for RWD either.

So that leaves the 911 Turbo or the Huracan for me (hopefully in a couple of years).

Here's a bit more info:- [;)]

"The car's aerodynamics makes a significant contribution to performance: its 1.67 efficiency figure is a new record for a production Ferrari, and is the fruit of 50 per cent more downforce than the previous model and reduced drag. The greatest challenge was achieving these two goals simultaneously. Several innovative elements were specifically developed to do so, not least a double front spoiler, base bleed side intakes and, at the rear, active aerodynamics coupled with a blown spoiler. The aerodynamic underbody, which incorporates vortex generators, is highly sophisticated, too."

So just the kit for the lanes of North Devon, then! [:(] [:D]

Regards,

Clive.

More likely to be bits of it in a line along the road, if the lanes are anything like those around here. I can even ground the (standard) Turbo in places if I do more than 20mph. [:(]

The 488 has cleaner lines than the 458 and doesn't actually look quite so vulnerable. [;)]

Most 458's I see in this neck of the woods have damage to their diffusers from speed bumps etc. as they hang very low at the rear.

The 488 appears more sweeping and higher at the rear, so the diffusers have more clearance, but I can't say categorically it's better in this respect as I forgot to take my tape measure with me! []

Regards,

Clive.

I think the Ferrari 488 is one of the best (if not the best) looking Ferrari if not car on the market today, alas my F car ownership days are over, I really am a Porsche man through and through.

Don't we car fans live in a wonderful age for car development but how long can they go on making them faster and faster. Mr Harris seems to like it:
