Festival Parking & Parade Laps

Reading other threads I feel we might be lagging behind here chaps.

As I understand, there are up to 20 parking spaces available on the register stand.

Whilst I appreciate the BKE isn't a particularly fine example of a Turbot, he does have some interesting features aside dents and stone chips (I might even get the shift light and breather tank fitted) and therefor I would like to put him forward for the Register stand. I will be there from Saturday PM through to Monday PM

On a similar line I would respectfully sugest that Rick, Tony and Fen should also be included. - That's 4 so far then. [;)]

Bad news:- Speaking to PSH yesterday, I understand that he blew his head gasket last week. He is now looking at an upgraded head so is unlikely to be at Brands. [:(]

I still have to sort my parade laps - will get ont HQ today.

Whilst I appreciate that this forum may not be the place to mention the above, this is a PCGB event and this is the only "official" PCGB forum.

I'd like to ask for some clarification regarding this. We seem to have a lack of strategy here, and little or confused information (what little information we have had so far).

1) What spaces are available for the register stand ?
2) Who allocates them and how ?
3) What spaces are available for the (Monday) parade laps ?
4) Who are they booked through ?
5) Is there free movement between the camp site and register stand on Sunday night ? i.e moving cars from the stand on Saturday evening to the camp area and returning on Sunday morning.
6) The record attempt for most Porsche's on the track at one time. Again who you book / obtain a chitty from ?
7) Who's setting up the register stand / gazebo and coordinating manning of same ?

These are just some of the questions that I'm aware of from discussions with other members over the last few days.

For my part, so far I've not booked anything yet as I've been awaiting concrete information concerning the above points, so now have to ask them on here.

Without the above information, I cannot make decision on what options to take about arrival time etc, or even whether not to bother coming at all.

I would like to photograph the event for my website (I published 43 pages, nearly 400 pictures from the TIPEC event at Walton Hall event last month), but find the allure of working and earning fees over the weekend a far more attractive option at this stage because of the lack of information as above.

It could be that I'm now too late to book, so the above may have become purely academic as far as I'm concerned, as I would not attend.

Someone ? Anyone ? [&:][&:]

Have spoken to HQ and paid my £10 for parade laps [:)]

Still confused as to the whole register display set up. Help please.

Thanks for the thought, John, but I'm not going to be there I'm afraid.

I Will be there but had been planning to put my car on the register stand this year as it is scruffy close up and i booked a parade lap a while ago with Martyn (& it looks and sounds nice from a distance). However if we are short of cars I will be happy to put mine on the stand - but if there are prettier examples around then happy to give them space.

Parade laps and register stand places are organised by Martyn.

Usually access between campsite and other areas isnt a problem.

I am sure the planning team is aware that cars will need to move between areas.

The record attempt is open to everyone there was a section on the booking form.

In answer to some of your questions. As usual the register display stand is organised by me. I have put numerous entries in PP as well as on the titanic site, asking for people to contact me if they wish to show their car. The response has been pretty pathetic, hence we only have about 5 or 6 spaces on the stand on each day, whereas other registers have up to 20 cars on their stands.

Regarding the parade laps it has been in PP for months for people to contact their Reg Sec to get names down. There had to be a cut off date and this was last week so the pre-booked list is now closed. I believe however, that it might be possible to sign up on the day if there are sufficient track spaces.

It will be possible to move your car, providing you have the correct pass as issued by club office for those people displaying cars.

Nick Fearn is setting up the gazebo as I will not be there until Sunday lunchtime. Manning will be as last year on an ad hoc basis.

Not wishing to be rude Martyn but I did and got no response - ultimately Nick phoned me a week before closure.

Again, please correct me if wrong but, if I recall correctly, you did post on Titanic suggesting that all places were filled with the exception of an S and a Turbo Cab. As a consequence the rest of us didn't bother.

Tony's comment also begs the question as to who should be representative of the register stand? Should it be those who get involved, and can be enthusiastic about what we do as a regisiter, or just a collection of nice cars?

On reading further postings on this forum I am of the impression that Ken 964 Reg Sec has 30 passes for each day; Paul 924 Reg Sec has 10 parade and 14 display cars and is pushing for more; Graham 911SC Reg Sec is also looking to 30 passes. I think it would be most unfortunate if one of the largest registers within the club provides the smallest display.

Ok put me down for the display stand then

I was thinking it might be a way to get more people active within the register - if those who know each other are always there it might make it harder for newcomers to join in.

Thinking about it some more - maybe a mix of current active members and newbies would be the way to go.

I am not being drawn into a bun fight over this. I have been Reg Sec for several years now and the response has always been the same. We have the largest register in the club, but only a handful of members are active and get involved.

Yes, I did say that I still needed a S and Turbo Cab working on the assumption that we would only have the limited number of spaces that we normally have and trying to get one example of each 944 model. If I have missed something that other RSs have picked up on in that we could have as many cars as we like on the stand then yes, I am at fault.

Nevertheless, I stand by my words in that the response to my trawl for cars was pathetic given that we currently have 694 members on the register books and only a handful replied/equired be it initially or latterly. I have only had about 15 enquiries in total and again, working on the above assumption turned about three people away because they all offered Turbos (non-cabs) and we already have several turbos promised. (I don't have actual figures here as I am sending this from work). As I said in our private mailings earlier today, if you wish to display then please contact club office and have them add your car to the list.

I don't make a roster of people to man the stand as in the past it hasn't worked. Indeed at one event at Highclere my wife and I 'manned' the stand for most of the weekend as those who had offered to help let us down, consequently we missed most of the event. If you or anyone else for that matter wishes to man the stand then Nick & I would be most grateful, just come along on the day and offer your services.

Regarding your parade laps, your email/enquiry must not have reached me. Had it done so your name would have been on the list I sent in to club office last week. Again, as I am doing this from work I cannot recall who was on the list until I get home and check this evening

I will admit that I have not given the register/this event the attention that I have done in the past, but for reasons connected with work/family it has not been uppermost in my mind. This is one of the reasons that Nick is taking over for a while.

I will be quite willing to discuss this in more detail over a beer at the event, but I feel we should drop it on this means now as not every nuance of meaning can be adequately conveyed over it.

John

Further to my last regarding your parade laps and your not being able to contact me. I have just seen the thread you started 'Has Anyone Seen Our Reg Sec' and now might be able to shed some light.

I have been away on leave for three weeks and so as not to clog up my inbox, set up a rule for any Porsche related stuff not to be sent from the titanic server. This means that if you used titanic to contact me I wouldn't have got it. I don't put in an autoreply as that clogs up everyong else's inboxes with infuiating messages after every mailing.

This does not apply to mail via the club address, so I should have got that; but nothing. Hopefully that clears that one up.

BTW, you could always volunteer to become 944 Reg Sec [;)]

I have but they seem a little confused by the request hence my further e-mail requesting either you, Nick or Paul take up this point with them.

I'm assuming Tony (obviously) and Rick (hopefully) also want to be included in the party and others may now come to the fore once they realise that there are more spaces available. Perhaps another posting on Titanic may now produce a more positive result.

Martyn, please be assured that I'm not looking to throw buns or any other form of projectile. It is just that, as a passionate and active member, I am keen to be involved even though I might not have the most spectacular car to show. As far as the beer goes, I'm up for that though I am concerned that, after one or two, many a nuance may again go unnoticed [:)]

'Has Anyone Seen Our Reg Sec' and now might be able to shed some light.

No worries, it's all sorted now and it's good to see you in amoungst the forum as well.

Honestly, these people who have 3 weeks away and don't take a PC with them. [:D]

Re Reg Sec - I couldn't do that, I'm far to belligerent and can't spell. [:D] As noted previously, whilst I might come across as a little negative at times it is only through a passion to see things moving along.

Martyn, thanks for your reply and attempts to clarify the situation.

I have spoken to Sue at PCGB about places and am awaiting an answer. I have concerns that I may not have access to to event to enable photographing it for my website, including the world record attempt on Sunday morning.

I'm also concered about leaving the balance of £8,000 worth of camera gear in to boot where the car cannot be kept under surveillance..

I'll post an update when I can.

Guys,

sorry we have only just finalised the Parking details, but we made our final site visit this morning and now can be definite about the Register and Parade Lap parking. Remember, the same area is used for both, and cars have to be able to easily move out on to the track for the Parade Lap.

For big registers, there is no issue to have 30 cars on each day, this covering both parade lap and Register parking.

I have only 17 944s notified for Sunday and 4 on Monday, so there is plenty of space left.

The bad news is the Club's cheap early booking ticket offer for the event itself closed on Friday, though of course no issue to buy a ticket on the day at the gate.

So if you wish to take a parade lap, then just let Angie/Sue at Club Office know.

Martyn, you may wish to issue a few more Register passes, especially for Monday?

Rick, I have left an email for you

Is this for parade laps or register display, Nic.?

Not that it is anything to do with me, just a matter of interest.

Assuming its parade laps it might clash with our kart teams - the programme in porsche post has us down for Monday parading so we have booked our karting for sunday afternoon. I am doing both not sure how many other 944 karters are (2 teams) also parading.

Nic

I am totally missing something here. Obviously there has been some sort of confusion over register display stand vs parade lap parking vs register parking. At previous events cars have been parked by register as long as they pre-booked, hence great swathes of 911s, 944s, 928s etc. will this be happening at Brands? The register displays have usually had only about eight cars; RSs trying to get the best in the register to display.

I understand now that the parade lap parking will be in with the register display, which isn't a problem, but I don't get your figures. If our laps are not until Monday, according to the list I sent you then there should be more cars on the stand on the Monday and fewer on the Sunday.

Also how can I send out more passes if a) I don't have them as I understand they are being sent out from club office directly to the people whose names I gave you and b) there is no uptake from the register.

The fact that the early booking has closed shouldn't have any bearing on the issue of register passes.

If any other 944 owner is following this thread and wishes to park on the register display area then please contact me asap as I will be going on leave (again) on 20 August and will be out of touch until the event. Alternatively contact Nick Fearn who will be taking over as Reg Sec at the event.

Martyn,
please can you put me down for both days then. Also Parade lap ?

Nic,
Sorry, I've been in and out of meetings all day so just picking up these messages now and been unable to call you this morning. I'll try to catch up with you later.

Thanks.

Rick.

Ditto, assuming you haven't already. [;)]

I have paid for my parade lap with Sue.

please contact me asap as I will be going on leave (again) on 20 August

Damn, it's alright for some [;)]

I THINK it's all resolved now. Thanks to Nic Doczi and Sue at PCGB.

Martyn, when you get the necessary tickets through, can you put me down for register display on Sunday & Monday, and the parade lap. Assuming there are enough spaces left ... [][]
