I am looking to reduce the weight of my 1983 2.5 race car. Can anyone recommend a supplier for doors, wings, bonnet and plastic glass please,

When weighed at Brands Hatch with me in it and a 1/4 of a tank of fuel, it was 1360kg. The car is stripped out but has a roll cage, all working lights etc. How much does a standard road 2.5 weigh ?


 
My turbo weighed 1300kg without me in it and not much fuel in there.

Aircon removed, sound deadening out, buckets and harnesses, rear seat delete, lightweight door cards but carpets, and a half cage.

I have their rear quarter and door windows with sliders and air vents fitted in my 924S race car.

I think my 924S weighs about 1070Kg with 3/4 of a tank of fuel on the Mallory scales, but without me in it. Stripped out, no trim or carpets or headlining whatsoever, bolt in 6 point cage, pop up lights and motors removed, plastic side windows (but keeps the glass hatch). The wings and doors are still metal but the bonnet is fibreglass.

A word of caution on the plastic door option - probably should only do this if you have a full weld in roll cage with double side bars. I have kept the metal doors in mine, including the side impact bars, because I only have a bolt in cage, although it does have 2 side bars.

Come and join me next year in the 1800-2500cc class of CSCC "Modern Classics"!
 
Bonnet from Pro-9 in Birmingham. Original pattern 944 / 937 wings from Teilecar in Poland (a little dearer but a far better fit). Original steel doors with the crash bars and all of the inners removed (free, just as light as GRP doors, safer and quicker than making £350pr GRP parts fit!). 951 style nose cone from Pro-9 in birmingham (matches original pattern wings).

You can remove the rising lamps and fit an all in one badge panel too, saving a few kilos more, and fit driving lamps in the fog lamp recesses in the 'PU'.

Racing does cost more than Sprinting but the price per minute on track is far better value! 20 Years ago I sprinted a 2.7 944 a few times and 3 minutes on track cost me £60.

The beauty of the racing I do is that it's not a championship so you can do as many or as few races a year as you want. I'd rather raçe twice than sprint 8 times. Also, the 40 minute format with 1 or 2 drivers means that you can share costs and get a bit of a "hire fee" from the second driver. If you choose a simple car (like a 924s!) then it can be a lot cheaper than is thought. Because I share and get a bit of a hire fee each time, I reckon I race for £4-6 per minute on track.

I am not actually a member of the PCGB, although I have been a couple of times before, so perhaps shouldn't gate crash the R8 meetings?

I've done a couple of informal sprint days at Curborough this year - not MSA events & you get pretty much unlimited runs through the day for the £60 entry fee. They are timed, and the cars separated into classes so there's an element of competition.
