fibreglass sunroof delete panel

Has anyone installed a fibreglass sunroof delete panel to replace the existing sunroof? I am considering getting one but they seem to be a lot of money.

The reason for doing this would be to lose weight but also as I am having trouble installing my 6 point bolt in cage as it is very tight to the roof lining.

Any other ways such as making an alu panel etc.

Any ideas?
Cheers
Sandy

I have one on the white car, it was bought from GT racing, they do both a carbon and Fibreglass one. Shame the exchange rate is poor as mine wasn't too expensive. Its been on the car for over a year and is exactly what I wanted - I'm really delighted although I suspect a lot of this is due to the care my bodyshop took fitting it.

Its had 6"+ of snow on it and I was worried this would be a problem (it's so thin/light you could see through the CF weave before it was painted) but its coped just fine.

It is costing £165. Apparently they are easy to fit, was just going to get it painted in red and then bond it in with tiger seal, then use black silicon around it to look like a sunroof. I was doing this rather than respray the whole roof.

Welding the steel is very difficult as it distorts the roof.

how much does the sunroof panel weigh?

My old S2 had the motors and fittings removed and it was bonded in place.

I think according to rennlist the original panel weighs about 18 lbs and the new fibreglass one will be about 2-3 lbs. I am just going to bite the bullet and order one on monday.

Good idea, we toyed with the idea of using part of a standard seal to make it look original, I think the silicone should work really well too.
