Finally Found My X50 !!!

Hi All,

After many months of looking I have finally put a deposit on an X50 996 Turbo. I spotted it at RSJ late last week and it turned out to be in excellent condition so I stuck a grand on it with the proviso that it passes Peter Morgan's test tomorrow.

First question: It has the telephone preparation with a handset on the passenger side of the centre console. Can this be removed? It looks like the cradle is part of the LH side panel so is it a simple matter of removing the panel and fitting a blank replacement?

Thanks,
B

Yes (in a word).

Really simple to remove the handset. Did it myself with a torx screwdriver. The phone unclips.

I kept the extended side panel and attached a Iphone holder to it. Look really neat.

The other option is to remove the side panel altogether, but you them need to source and replace it with a thinner one that matches the other side.

Ian!

The side panels in leather are an arm and a leg (£250+), but you can get them in black 'leatherette' at the (slightly) more reasonable price os £40 +VAT.

Firstly congratulations on your purchase. You will not b disapointed, buying a 996 turbo was the best decsion I ever made.

Ooh where from? I've been meaing to remove this since I bought the car!

Also does anyone know (and my keyboard is tilted in Richards direction) what the full list of changes/upgrades for the x50 were? I always thought it was the turbos, intercoolers and exhaust (possibly just cats) but I was recently told the pick up for the oil feed was changed and something in the gearbox??

Regards,

Ben

Apart from Turbos, intercoolers, and exhaust, the other changes I have found are:

Clutch plate (note, the Turbo S has a different clutch plate AND pressure plate)
Crownwheel and pinion (same ratio as standard)
Engine oil pump.

There may be others, but I couldn't see anything obvious flicking through the parts lists.

(Better go and cut the grass, before Mrs H starts nagging....)

Thanks chaps, MUCH appreciated.

T1X: Would you mind detailing what Ipod mount you used and what kit you used to integrate it into the system please? I have a PCM2 and an Ipod classic.

Cheers,
B

Forgot to add: The left hand lower console panel in black leatherette for a 2000- car is part number 996.552.091.06.A12 at £40.43 +VAT. (Diffferent part number for 98 & 99 for some reason. Might be the leatherette texture).

Hi There,

I used just a holder I got off ebay. Cost £6 but I can swivel the iphone which is handy if I am using TomTom.

There is not connection to PCM2. I was thinking about Dension Gateway 500, but need to budget for it. The kit looks awesome.

Leatherette is Porsche's fancy name for vinyl. Some of the leather trim on my car is so good it looks like real plastic. [;)]
