Finally got a few jobs sorted!

Hi All,

Been suffering with a minor but annoying oil leak from the underside of the Lux for a couple months now. Anyway... cut along story short, i bit the bullet and took it to Jasmine Motorsport in Burnley.

They turned out to be very a friendly bunch and very helpful.

They diagnosed the problem, as a balance shaft seal - which incidentally was not what we thought it was, i honestly thought it was coming from the cam box, it can be very deceiving with oil being thrown around.

Anyway.... got a few other niggly things sorted out whilst there including bonnet struts, steering shaft, gear oil, anti roll bar bushes, coolant flush to name but a few.

Unlike most garages where they take the car keys from you and ask you to take a seat in the waiting room, they had no problem me going in the workshop so it was nice to be able to poke around beneath the car whilst on the ramp, and i must say i was pleasantly pleased with its condition.... nothing too sinister to concern me.

Ended up with a bill for £450 which considering the labour involved and the parts, i thought was very reasonable.

Steering feedback was good before, but definately feel the improvement with the new steering shaft, the old one had a worn UJ.

I would have no hesitation in recommending them and will certainly continue to use them in the future.

Regards

Its great to get all the small jobs sorted, I just got to the bottom of one list, but started a new list. Need to sort the door lock, brake pads, front shocks, sunroof, etc etc. It never ends, would I swop it?

No, I need somthing to do. I spend all week driving hire cars to work and back and find them so boring. At the moment I have a Ford Fiesta TDCIDI or somthing like that, and I have covered over 500 miles in it this week and nothing has broken(apart from my back) so were is the fun?

Ah yes, nothing better than getting in a workaday econobox (good though that they are) to make you realise what a treat any 944 is.

As you say, the jobs that need doing just make you feel more "involved".

Ding!

Would I like my S2 as much if it didn't always have something small and non-critical to be tinkered with? Probably not ... [:)]

(Don't tell Mrs zcacogp that some of the tinkering is voluntary tho'!)

Oli.

The only problem is most of my tinkering leads to things not working.[:D]

For example, got the car back from Promax the other week and all is running spot on, but I had to tinker. This ended up me taking a trip to B&Q to by some metal weld/glue. As I had pulled the metal pipe out of the manifold for the ISV, I was only checking everything was tight.[:-] Also the same day I took the sunroof out to check the drain holes and seal as the rear floor gets wet. This ended up with me doing my best Basel Faulty impression as I some how got the hooks on the roof stuck so thay couldnt engauge.[:D]

If I just remove this nut here and........oh dam the engine fallen out.[:D]

I believe the expression is 'if it aint effin' broke, don't effin' fix it...'?!!

I'm as guilty of that as you are, by the sounds of things![8|][:D]

and I'm another one, just can't leave things alone...[8|]
Started changing front pads, i've now fitted new seals to the caliper pistons, new discs and now I've got the wheel bearing out wondering which type of grease to buy.[:D]

It just doesn't stop, but I'd be bored if it did.

When I got mine 8 years ago I drew up a list of issues that needed doing in order of importance. I am still going at stuff and the list is just getting longer and longer.... I dont think it will ever be finished [:D]

Before it goes anywhere next year I need to get the brake calipers refurbished, Full service including belts, possibly replace all the pipes and hoses under the bonnet. Id love to get under the bonnet cleaned up and get the cambox powder coated... I seen you boys with this done and it looks stunning ....!

I love tinkering, learning and the smug satisfaction of fixing somthing yourself.

Iam always doing ongoing lists and just when you seem to be getting to the bottom................other things come up[]
